Description

No. 762,339. PATENTED JUNE 14, 1904.
7 H. W. MOGIBBENY.
, HOSE COUPLING.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 22, 1903, N0 MODEL.
UNITED STATES Patented June 14, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY W. MOGTBBENY, OF FINDLEYVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
HOSE-COUPLING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 762,339, dated. June 14, 1904.
Application filed May 22, 1903. Serial No. 158,292. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY W. MOGIBBE NY, a citizen of the United States, residingat Findleyville, in the county of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hose-Couplers, of which improvement the following is aspeci fication.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hose-couplers, and has for its object to provide a coupler which can be quickly coupled, and the same will hold firmly and securely until it is desired to disconnect the coupler.
Another object is to provide a coupler which will be simple in construction, strong and durable, and highly efiicient in operation.
Briefly described, my invention consists of male and female members secured together by means of levers which'are pivoted to the female member and engage lugs carried by the male member, said levers being held in engagement with the lugs by a ring passed over the ends thereof.
With the above and other objects in View the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved coupler. Fig. 2 is atop plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a section of the pipe, the securing mechanism being removed.
To put .my invention into practice, 1 provide a malemember 1 and a female. member 2, the male member having an annular collar 3 formed thereon, and formed integral therewith is the annular projection 1. The female member 2 carries a collar 5, and in the end of the member 2 is formed an annular recess 6, into which fits the annular projection 4:. Upon the members 1 and 2 may be secured the hose 7 by any suitable means.
The reference- numerals 8 and 9 indicate two collars which are carried on the members 1 and 2, the collar 9 beingcarried by the female section, and on said collar 9 are formed the lugs 10 and 11, and pivoted to said lugs are the bifurcated ends 12 .and' 13 of the levers 14: and 15, said levers having the upper faces of their ends rounded; as shown at 16, and over said ends are secured the hooks 17 and 18, said hooks being integral with the shank 19, which extends around the hose, this shank and hook being removed when it is desired to uncouple the hose.
The collar 8 carries lugs 20, said lugs having the beveled edges 21, which engage the beveled edges 22 of the levers 14c and 15, said edges 22 being formed by the connection of bifurcated arms with both portions of the levers. V
It can be readily seen when the two members 1 and 2 are placedtogether and the levers 14: and 15 pulled down over the lugs 20 that the member 1 will be forced into the member 2 and can be locked in this position by the shank and hooks 17 and 18.
While I have shown and described my invention of the above construction, it is obvious that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit and scope of the invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hose-coupler comprising male and female members fitting one into the other, collars carried on said members, each of said collars carrying a pair of lugs at diametrically opposite points thereon, levers having their one ends bifurcated and pivotally secured to each of one of said pairsof lugs attheir ends, the other of said pairs of lugs having beveled edges, the end wall of said levers between the bifurcated portion thereof being beveled to conform to and engage said beveled lugs, said lugs limiting the inward movement of the levers, said levers having their other ends rounded, and extending for a distance beyond the last-named pair of lugs, and a locking device comprisingashank extending around one side my name in the presence of two subscribing of the hose and having a hook on each end Witnesses. thereof adapted to embrace said rounded ends of the levers, said locking device being capa- HARRY MOGIBBENY' 5 ble of being removed when out of engage- In presence of -ment with said levers. F. O. HENZI,
In testimony WhereofI have hereunto signed Hi J. LEVIs.
