Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. Voss, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Davenport, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined VVringer- Tray and Drip-Board, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description.
My invention relates to drip-boards and wringer-trays used in connection with ordinary laundry tubs or tubs of mechanical washing machines.
The object of the same is to provide a combined tray and drip-board that is compact and neat in appearance and is so made that it may be readily removed and placed inside the tub while being shipped. Owing to its simplicity of construction the tray can be easily secured. to the top of the tub when received. by the user as the same needs no adjustment. The manner of fastening the tray in place is such that it becomes firmly secured to the top of the tub and any liability of it becoming loosened by wear or accidentally torn off is avoided. When in proper position it acts as a drainfor the water and suds wrung out of the washed articles and directs the same back into the tub again thus avoiding any dripping on the floor. This I accomplish by the means hereinafter fully described and as more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a side elevation of a washing machine with a portion of the side broken away to show my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of my improved wringer-tray and drip-board removed from the tub and drawn to a larger scale. Fig. 3 is a view of the underside thereof. Fig. 4 is a transverse central section of the same taken on dotted line 44, of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings A represents a suitable tub that is provided with a hinged or removable cover B that carries, if desired, the operating parts of a suitable mechanical movement. This cover extends over the en tire tub with the exception of a segmental portion that is covered by my improved wringer-tray. This wringer-tray is preferably made of cast metal and is rectangular in shape. It comprises a fiat bottom portion C, having end-walls c, that arise from the ends thereof and extend upwards'a distance corresponding to about one-half the width of the bottom of the tray. The forward portion of these end-walls are gradually reduced in height as shown and extend backward and merge into and form a longitudinal rear-wall D, the central portion of which latter is, preferably, also reduced in height and form an elongated recess d. The underside of this tray is provided with a segmental rib or fin f that extends across the length of said tray and corresponds in curvature to the outside circumference of the top of the tub.
Secured to the underside of the tray by means of suitable cleats is a segmental wooden block G. This block is arranged in such manner that its curved edge is concentrio with the rib f and thus forms a seat F between said parts into which the top edge of the tub is inserted when the tray is secured thereto. Suitable screw-holes, g, g, are provided in this seat through which the screws are passed and embed themselves into the upper portion of the tub. If desired, a suitable wooden rail E may be secured to the rear-wall D to which the clamps ofa wringer are fastened when the latter is to be used. When this combined wringer-tray and dripboard is secured in place the same fits snugly and firmly upon the top edge of the tub and i by reason of the seat F formed in the bottom thereof is prevented from becoming loose by reason of any unusual wear or strain upon the same.
What I claim as new is A wringer-tray for tubs consisting of a rectangular shaped metal box provided with an integral curved metal rib on its underside and having one longitudinal side-wall cut away; and a removable wooden-block secured to the underside of said box between said rib and the edge of said open side.
