l'iuvc invented ccrtuin ncw'zmd useful linprovonicnls U1 llonsclxold-Srftcrs, ol.' which:
the following is a.- spccilion-lion.
The proscut invention rclolcs to ccrluin now and useful improvcxucnlis in tlrcconstruc- Lion ol siltcrs :ind cons, and morc rmrticu lorly to that type of silivrs which arc espociully dcsigncd lor household. usc, tho primary object being to prm ido :1 sil'l'rr of this cliaructcr by moons of which l'lour or similar mal -rial can be quickly and thoroughly rcduccd lo mpowdcrcd shite.
Broadly spanking the siltor clnbodi-cd by the present iuvcntion is in. tlicjiaturc of a. I tubular body portion comprising series of annular sections, each section czirryiug o sifting screen and menus being providvd wlicroby tlic various sifting sci con be causedv to oscillotc in unison so that as tho Hour falls through the body portion it is tl'lorouglily ogitzitcd and caused to pass through tho various screens in snob ii omnnor to tboixnlglily rcrnovc all the lumps. For n lull tlcscnption oi tlio invention and the merits tncreoi and also to acquire it knowlcd 'c oi the uctzuls cl. construc'ion and is to be had. to the following dcscription ond accompanying drawings, in which:
structccl in. accordance with the present in.- vention. Fig. 2 is o trans erse sectional view on the lino 2--2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 c longitudinal sectional view through time Sifter. Fig. 4r is o zlctail view showing; tho method of attaching the lower end of tho handle to the loivcr scction of tlic sitter.
Corros onding cndlilrc ports are referred to in the to lowing descriotion and indicated in 46 all'thc views of the drawings by the some reference characters.
The numeral 1 dcsignntcs the lower soction of the tubular body nortion, and this section is shown as provi lid with the su porting legs 2 by moons of which the Sifter is normally hold in as, spoccd position with rcspect to the support upon which it rests. 1119 u per scction 3 of the tubular body por" tion ms tho bondic 4t rigidly connected 55 thcrcto, tlic lcwcr o trcmity of tlic liondlc being provided. will; to c cnsions or prongs Figure 1 is o side elevation of a sitter con:
Y 5 which iil: rcnmvably Within a suitable liocpcr l5 upon the lovvor section 1. lnterposed liclwcon-rl'io lower SKGlIlOll 1 and the upper section 53 of lllQ tubular body are a serivs ol' imm'mciliotc sections. 7, in the present iustuncc two in number. The lower edge of tlic uppor section 3 and .cscb. of tho ii'itormedime sections 7 "s d rnwn inwardly preferably by fll'lll'lpll'lg as indicated at 5 and tile soid crinipcd portion iits Within the upper ridge of the next lowcr section when the various sections on: assembled in position for use as shown in Fig. l.
.lnnucrliotrd y above the crinig'yed portion 8 of each oillrc intcrn'iediuto sections 7 and the Lippi-$800110 3 them is locatw'l an outwardly engaging the upper cdgc of the next lower section and coi'istituting a stop to positively limit the t l4 l.-;woping action of the crimped portions ls. .Jzicll of tbc annular sections of lili lubulnr body portion is also provided Willi. an inwardly pressed annular rib 10 which. constiliulcs o. soot upon which the sifting screens normally rest.
lo the specific construction of the sifting screens it v. ill lib observed that the same coinprisc rings ll. fitting loosely within. the vari ous sections of the. tubular body and having their lower edges conncctcrl by netting or screen 12, tlic said rings ll. being supported by the ribs 10in such n manner as to have an os .-illot 'iry inovcincnt tlicrcon. A laterally extending arm 13 is carried byooch of the rings 1 l, the said arms assing outwardly through slots 14 formed in the tubular body portion and being gncd to move longitudinally of tlic slots .o import oscillatory movement to the sifting screens.
lhc outer extremity of catch of tlfclntcrcl arms 13 is formed. with an eye 15 and. the various arms are connected by it rod 16 extending through tho said eyes. It will thus bc apparent that by moving the rod 16 back and il'orth so that the arms 13 play within the slots l t the various sifting screens 12 can be givon a, simultaneous oscillating moveniont. lit may be found desirable as in slocvos 17 upon tho rod 16 in order to providc a suitable operating handle.
in order to hold the various sections of the tubular body in opcrotivo position, a pair of locking members 18 are cm loycd, the" said lockin incinbcrs having ticir lower ends pivotc ly connected to the lower section 1, while tlicir upper cnd-s are formed with hook the prcscnt instance to mount a, sries of ln'rsscd annular rib 9 which forms a shoulder per ions which are designed to engage With the upper edge of the top section 3 of'the tubular body.
Should it be desired to dismount the sitter it is simply necessary to swing the locking members 13 out of engagement with the upper section 3 and remove the rod 16. .The various sections can then be lifted out of engagement with each other, and the-sitting screens removed from their respective sections by first tilting the same and then moving the same laterally over the upper edge of the section until the arm 13 has been disengaged from. the slot 14.
liavin thus described the invention, what is claimed new is:
1. in a device of the character described, the combination of a tubular body comprising a series of annular scctions, the lowcr edge of each section being crimpcd and received Within the upper portion of the adjacent se tion, each oi the sections having a. rib pressed tuitwardly thercl'rom to form a stop for limiting the telescopic movement ol' the sections and also having an amiular seat prcsscd inwardly therefrom, a sitting screen carried by each of the sections and resting loosely upon the seat, and means l'or imparting movement to the sitting screens.
2. in a device of the character described, the combimrtitm oi a tubular body portion provided with a series of annular seats and also with. a series of slots, a sifting screen supported by each of the annular seats, a lateral arnl carried by each of the sitting screens and operating within one of the slots, and a hun- (i e member connecting the lateral arms I y g t l t l t l I i i t i I whereby the sitting screens can be moved in unison.
3. In a device of the character dcscrilml, the combination of a tubular body portion comprising a series of annular sections, each oi the sections bcing lormcd with a seat and also with a slot, a sitting screcn carried by each of tlic'scctions and resting upon the seat, and an arm projecting from each of the sitting screens and passing through the rcspccti've slot in thc annulartscction, the said arms being provided with eves, and a rod comiecting th arms and passing through thc eyes thercoi.
r. in a device ol' the charactcr described, the combination of a tubular body portion comprising aserics ol annular sections, a sliting screen carried by cach ol' the scctions, a. handle connected to one ol' the sections and provided with zlll'OXttllSlOll, and a l\'((])(l' carried by one of the sections l'orrccciving the said extension upon the handle.
5. A household sil'tcr comprising a series of superposed annular sections, a sitting screen loosely mounted nithin each of the sections, connecting means bctnccn the end sections, and a handle permanently connected to one of the end sections and detachably engaging the opposite end section.
In testimony \vhcreol we allix our signature in presence of two witnesses.
