ing drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sash holders for windows, and comprises essentially a rubber disk held by the casing against the sash of a window, said casing tapering and so arranged that the disk, which is mounted to rotate freely within the casing, will frictionally bear between the guide strip upon the frame and the inclined edge of the casing with sufficient force to hold the window at any location.
The invention consists further in various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which:-
igure l is a side elevation of my invention, showing the same applied to a sash and holding the same frictionally. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the disk at the lower end of the casing in position to allow the sash to move freely. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the casing and the disk mounted therein, and Fig. 4 is a detail view of the disk removed.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the sash of a window, B the window frame and C guide strips.
D designates a casing made preferablyT of metal and tapering slightly from its lower l to its upper end. Said casing is open upon two faces and is adapted to confine a disk E, preferably of rubber or other suitable mate- Said disk is preferably of a diameter equal to the widest portion of the casing and is designed to rotate upon the inner inclined surface of the casing as the sash is raised and lowered. As the sash lowers, the disk travels up the inclined surface of the casing and bears frictionally against the guide strips C, thereby having a tendency to force the sash laterally with sufficient force to cause the window to be held in an adjusted position.
F designates a bolt passing through an aperture in the inclined side wall of the casing and also through a strap on loop N. A pin F projects from said bolt through a slot in the bottom of the casing and affords means whereby the bolt may be moved longitudinally. Suitable holes Q are formed in the frame to receive the bolt for the purpose of holding the sash at its lowest or highest limit.
In applying my invention to the sash of a window, the casing is fastened, as shown in the drawings, with its open longitudinal edge flush with the vertical edge of the sash, the device being held to the face of the sash by screws or other fastening means.
The 4operation of my device depends upon the sash normally having a slight lateral movement, as sash usually do in a window in order to allow the same to move freely, and owing to the sash having a slight lateral movement, the disk within the casing wedging between the inclined side of the casing and the guide strip, will cause the sash to be thrown laterally with suflicient force to frictionally hold the latter at any desired location. AVhen it is desired to lower a window which is held by the friction disk, the sash is raised slightly, drawing the sash away from the guide rail against which the disk contacts and the latter will fall to the lower part of the casing, after which the sash may be freely lowered or raised.
l/Vhat I claim is A sash holder comprising, in combination with a window frame and sash slidingly mounted therein, a casing which is right angled in cross section fastened to the face l rial.
of the sash and having the longitudinal edge said roller being limited in its movements by ofthe outside closure ofthe easing positioned an led ends of the easing, as set forth.
adjacent and parallel to the Window frame, n testimony whereof I hereunto aliX my said frame forming a closure for the outer signature in the presence of tWo Witnesses. side of the casing, a flexible spindleless roller FRANK CLARK JACOBS. mounted Within said casing and adapted to Witnesses:
bear against the frame of the Window and l /VARREN A. STEVENS,
