Description

M. F. HOLBROOKL WINDOW SASH. APPLICATION. FILED 001'. 23,1907.
Patented Oct. 20, 1908.
awwwtoz WW1 cows MILO FRANKLIN HOLBROOK, OF LONGVIEW, TEXAS.
WIN DOW-SASH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 20, 1908.
Application filed October 23, 1907. Serial No. 398,804.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILO F. HOLBROOK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Longview, in the county of Gregg and State of TeXas, have invented new and useful Improvements in WVindow-Sashes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to window sash, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide metal guide strips secured to the window frame and metal guides secured to the window sash for moving in the guideways.
Another object ofthe invention is to provide means whereby the guide strips may be adjusted so that the friction created between the guide strips on the window frame and the guides on the window sash will be suflicient to hold the sash in any required adjusted position without the use of sash weights or sash fasteners.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a window frame and window sash mounted in accordance with my invention, said view being taken from the inner side of the window. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 22, of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse sec tion on the line 3-3, of Fig. 2, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow in said figure.
Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates the window frame, and 2 is the window sill. Secured to the inner surface of the frame 1 upon opposite sides is a metal parting strip 3, said strip being provided with a flange 4 which bears against the frame 1, and a lip 5 which terminates at a slight distance from the surface of the frame 1, said parting strip having a connecting face portion 6 provided with a series of perforations through which the attaching screws 7 pass. The upper sash 8 is provided at its opposite sides with a guide strip 9,
said guide strip having an angular flange 10 which is seated in a recess in one side of the sash, and a hook member 11 which engages the lip 5. The guide strip 9 is secured to the side members 8 of the sash by means of suitable screws 12.
For the lower sash a metal guide 13 is provided, said guide having a flange 14 and inclined face 15, said guide having its terminal edge 16 disposed at a slight distance from the inner surface of the frame 1. Upon the lower sash a guide strip 17 pro vided with a flange 18 and a hook 19 which engages the edge 16 is secured in place by means of screws 20. The guide 13 is provided with a series of screws 21 by means of which said guide may be adjusted to regulate the friction between the edge 16 and the hook 19. The screws 7 may also be turned in the parting strip to create more or less friction between the lip 5 and the hook 11, so that the sash may be moved up or down and held in adjusted position without the use of sash weights or sash fasteners.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that a sash connected to a window frame in accordance with my invention can be raised or lowered and will be supported at any point; that sash weights and fasteners are entirely dispensed with; that. the construction is comparatively simple, and can be produced and installed at slight cost.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
A window sash provided with a guide strip having a flange seated in a recess in ,the sash, and a hook at the opposite edge thereof, in combination with a guide having a lip engaging the hook, and means for ad justing said lip relatively to the hook for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MILO FRANKLIN HOLBROOK.
Witnesses:
J. J. BUTTS, WV. E. BOLTON.
