UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN W. COOK, OF PROVO, UTAH.
WINDOW-SASII HOLDER.
To all who/m t may concern.'
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN W. Cook, citizen of the United States, residing at Provo, in the county of Utah and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVindow-Sash Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention may be applied to windows in which a link is used to hold the window open, and is especially applicable to windows in which the sash is hinged at one side, and its novelty resides partly in the link itself, and also in the guide which controls and limits the movement of the link.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the device, in which- Figure 1, is a front elevation of a part of a window frame, as viewed from the outside, and having my invention connected therewith. Fig. 2 is a plan view of a cross section on line of Fig. 1, with the window open. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the under side of the link with the guide thereon, and detached from the window, and Fig. 4 is a cross section on line i/-y of Fig. 3.
Like figures of reference denote corresponding parts, in the several views.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1, designates a window frame and 2 the window sill.
3 denotes the window sash and 5 the lower sash bar. The sash is hinged to the frame at one side, the lower hinge appearing at 4.
6 is a plate or link having a perforation 7 at one end, and recesses 8, 8, along one edge. The link 6 is rotatably secured to the window sill 2, by a screw 10, which passes through the perforation 7. The plate 6 is adapted to move in a guide 12, which is loosely fastened to the under side of the lower sash bar by a pin or screw 14. The guide 12 is formed from a plate having its ends bent over toward each other, and spaced apart sufficiently to permit the link 6 to move readily in it. The outer end of the Specification of Letters Patent. Application led December 9, 1910, Serial No. 596,485. Renewed February 1, 1913.
Patented Sept. 23, 1913.
Serial No. 745,742.
link is upbent to form a flange 9, to prevent the link from slipping out of the guide. The head of the screw 14, is adapted to engage the recesses 8 in the link by which means the window is held at any desired point.
A recess 15, is formed at one side of the guide to allow the guide to move in closely when shutting the window without interference from the screw 10.
It should be noticed that the hole 16, in the under side of the guide 12, is large enough to permit the head 13, of the screw 14, to pass entirely through it and to rest loosely against the upper side of the guide. The head 13 ofthe screw 14, has, preferably, a vertical measurement, equal to, or greater' than, the thickness of the link 6.
I do not limit the application of the device to the bottom of a window, as it may be applied to the sides or the top of the sash.
What I claim and desire to secure is,-
The combination with a window casing having a hinged sash of a link provided with lateral recesses and adapted for pivotal attachment at one end to the window casing, a guide on said link composed of a plate with its ends folded over toward each other and its upper and lower portions spaced apart to movably admit said link, said 'guide having a relatively large perforation through its under side and a smaller perforation through its upper side, a screw having a cylindrical head adapted to pass through said large perforation in the under side of said guide and to be engaged by said lateral recesses in said link, said screw being adapted to movably secure said guide to the lower edge of said sash, and an uptluned terminal flange on said link to retain said guide thereon.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
CHRISTIAN W. COOK.
