EDWIN LOUDERBACK, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 369.254, dated August 30, 1887.
Application tiled October 18, 1886. Serial No. 216.483. (No model.
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWIN LoUnEEnAoK, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Blinds, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure l is a front elevation of the upper part of a mounted window-blind provided ,with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of one of the end brackets to which the top slat of the blind is pivoted. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical. section as on line xx, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a slightly-modified form of the bracket.
This invention relates to an improvement inthe inode of mounting Venetian 7 windowblinds; and it consists in the combination, with one of the end brackets to which the top slat of the blind is pivoted, of a pulley or sheave journaled therein, over which pulley and like pulleys in said pivoted slat run the cord or cords for raising or lowering the blind, as hereinafter more clearly set forth and claimed.4
Referring to the annexed drawings, Amarks the windowfranie; B, the blind; C C', the end brackets` from which the latter is suspendedr D, the upper slat, which is pivoted t0 said brackets, and E the cord or cords for raising or lowering the blind.
As seen in Figs. 2 and 3, the upper part of bracket G has formed thereon a pair of lateral lugs, Z, between and in which is journaled a small double-grooved pulley or sheave, s, over which the cords E run, an opening, o, through which said cords pass, being formed in the bracket at the rear of said pulley. Que end of this bracket C is provided with the usual perforated plate or flange, f,whereby the bracket may be screwed to the side of the window-frame, and also a hole, :0, for the reception of thepivot-pin of the Slat. The op posite bracket, C, is of usual construction, the other end of the upper slat being pivoted thereto. This Slat D has formed therein at the points where the raising and lowering cords pass longitudinal slots z, in which are journaled grooved pulleys 1J. The two cords E, which are secured to the bottom slat, (not showm) pass up through openings in the various slats in the usual manner, and over the pulleys p p, respectively, in the upper Slat, and the pulleys Vin the bracket C', extending down within convenient reach.
The blind is operated in the usual mannert'. e., if it be desired to raise the blind, the cord or cords E are pulled downward, thereby drawing up the lower slats, and if desired to lower the blind the cords are released, the slats being opened and closed or adjusted to various angles by means oi the cord G on the opposite side, which is secured to the slat D.
Vith the construction above described it is Obvious that I am enabled to dispense with the upper box or casing (secured to the window-frame) from which the blind was suspended heretofore, which box or casing contained the pulleys over which run the cords E. I therefore not only cheapen and simplify the construction of the blind, but also improve the appearance thereof.
rIhe modification shown in Fig. 4L consists merely in forming the liangef at the upper end of the bracket, in order that the latter may be secured to the top piece of the window-frame when it would be otherwise inconvenient to secure the same to the side of the frame, owing to beading, Ste.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and wish to secure by Letters Patent#- 1. The pulley-bracket for blinds of the class recited, provided with the grooved sheave journaled between the lugs Z, a downward extension provided with the pivot-hole af, and the liange f, all constructed and combined substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination, with the blind having its upper slat provided with the pulleys p p and cords E and G, of the bracket having the lugs Z, and the sheave journaled between the same, the downward extension of said bracket having the pivothole x, and the end of the upper slat pivoted in said hole, all constructed, combined, and adapted to operate substantially as and for the purpose recited.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature this 14th day of Cctober, A. D. 1886.
