To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEON W. ll/IINER-STEVENS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Biglake, in the county of Skagit and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match-Striking Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object an improvedcom struction of match striking attachment for lamps and lanterns, and the invention consists in certain arrangements and constructions of the parts which I shall hereinafter fully describe, and particularly point out the novel features in the appended claims.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the incans for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lamp burner at.- tachment embodying the improvements of my invention; Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof; and, Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the same.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the burner of a lamp or lantern of any desired form or type, 2 the slot for the wick, 3 the wick tube, and 4 a spider which depends from the burner and surrounds the lower end of the wick tube and is in the present embodiment of the invention screw threaded so as to be used as a means for attaching the burner to the base or font of the lamp or lantern. The wick may be raised or lowered in the wick tube by means of the ordinary spindle with its milled finger disk 6.
My improved lighting attachment consists of a plate 7 which is formed with a preferably serrated upper surface 8 and which is forked at one edge to form a recess 9. To the extremities 10 of the fork, rods 11 are secured in any desired manner, and the ends of said rods are attached to the burner, preferably by inserting the ends of said rods into openings in the spider arms, and by means of clips 12 which secure said arms at their opposite ends to the rim of the burner ring, as
shown. When attached, the plate I is positioned with its recess 9 receiving the disk 6 and the said plate is so located of such thickness as to permit the disk to project above and below the faces of the plate, so that the wick may be readily raised and lowered. In the preferred arrangement, the plate 7 extends in an inclined direction so as to throw a minimum of shadow when the lamp is lighted.
From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that I have provided a very simple, cheap, durable and'eflicient attachment for lamps and lanterns whereby one may have always at hand a proper scratching surface upon which to strike a match.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. The combination with a lamp burner, its wick tube and wick raising and lowering device with its linger disk, of a forked plate embracing said disk and of such thickness as to expose the upper and lower portion of the periphery of said disk. and means for securing said plate to the burner.
2. The combination with a lamp burner, its wick tube and wic raising and lowering spindle with its finger disk, of a forked plate embracing said disk and extending ob- Iiqucly with reference thereto and of such thickness as to permit the disk to project above and below the faces of the plate, and means for connecting said plate to the burner.
3. The combination with a lamp burner, its wick tube, and its wick raising and lowering finger disk, of a forked serrated plate embracing said disk and of such thickness as to permit the disk to project above and below the faces of the plate, rods secured to the forked extremities of said plate, and means for securing said rods to the burner.
4. The combination with a lamp burner, its wick tube, a spider connected to the burner and surrounding said wick tube, and a wick raising and lowering finger disk, of
