APPLICATION FILED APR. 20. 1907.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. FAIN AND ROBERT A. HENRY, OF DANDRIDGE, TENNESSEE.
LAMP-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 10, 1907.
Application filed April 20. 1907. Serial No. 369.320.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM A. FAIN andRoBERTA. HENRY, citizens of the United States, residing at Dandridge, in the county of Jefierson and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in they construction of lamps and more particularly to .the means for eifecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a lamp burner constructed in accordance with the present invention, portions being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a detached perspective of the base of the burner.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Specifically describing the invention the numeral 1 designates the body portion of the lamp which is in the nature of a reservoir for containing the oil and which is provided at the mouth thereof with the neck 2.- Located upon the exterior of the neck 2 is an annular groove 3 and the said groove is shown as disposed toward the lower portion of the neck.
The burner as indicated at 4 may be of any conventional construction and is mounted upon the base 5 formed with the usual gallery and spring arms for engaging the lamp chimney. Pendent from the base 5 surrounding the wick opening therein is a sleeve 6 designed to fit over the neck 2. An opening 7 is formed in the sleeve 6 so as to register with the annular groove 3 when the burner is placed in position upon the body of the lamp and a spring catch mounted upon the sleeve operates through the opening 7 to engage the groove 3 and lock the burner in position when the lamp is in use.
In the specific construction ofthe spring catch it will be observed that the same comprises a pair of angularly disposed arms 8 and 9 loosely connected to the sleeve at their junction, the downwardly extending arm 8 terminating in a latera extension operating through the opening 7 to engage the groove 3, while the upwardly extending arm 9 constitutes a finger-piece for operating the catch and has a spring 10 secured thereto, the inner end of the spring bearing loosely against the sleeve and normally holding the catch in an operative position. It will thus be apparent that by pressing inwardly upon the long arm 9 and withdrawing the short arm 8 of the catch the sleeve 6 can either be slipped upon or removed from the neck 2 as may be found desirable.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In a lamp burner, the combination of a reservoir formed with a neck, the said neck being provided with an annular groove, a base, a burner mounted upon the base, a
sleeve carried by. the base and fitting loosely over the before mentioned neck, the said sleeve having an opening formed therein designed to register with the groove, a catch comprising a pair of angularly disposed arms loosely connected to the sleeve at their junction, one of said arms being provided at its extremity with a lateral extension passing through the opening in the sleeve and designed to engage the groove in the neck while the opposite arm extends outwardly and constitutes a finger-piece, and a spring connected to the latter mentioned arm and bearing loosely against the sleeve.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signature in presence of two witnesses.
