Description
@time iw.
ABNER s. DALBEY, or RICHMOND, INDIANA.
Letters Patent Nol 86,909, dated February 16, 1869.
IMPROVED FASTENING- Fon nnsrrmns.
The Schedule referred to in these Lett-ers Patent and making part of tha same.
have invented a new and improved Fastening for Bedsteads; and I do hereby declare that the, following is a t'ulland exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, lna'liing a part of this specification.
The nature'of n ly invention relates to an improved Inethod of'seeuring together the rails and posts-oi' bedsteads, whereby the clamping-device is independent of the bearing which supports the weight, and consists of olea-ts, secured near the ends ofthe'rails, and contiguously upon the posts, over which dovetailed clamps are forced, thus binding the parts tirn'ily and securely together. l
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use niy invention, I will proceed to describe the same with reference to the drawings.
The bedstead is made in anyof the usual forms, the rails being supported by bearings, consisting, in this example, of dowel-pins, as represented at D E, Figure A2.
The dovetailed cleats F H are made slightly tapering toward their upper ends, and secured respectively to the rail and post by wood-screws.
The clamp, or disk Gr, Figure 3, is provided with a taperingdovetailed groove, designed to fit eloselyupon the cleats, as represented at G, Figure l, thus binding the parts rnily together;- Ihis disk may be plated, or made otherwise ornamental, and has the advantage of being readily applied or removed, while, from the fact of the weight being elsewhere supported, it is not liable `to break, or to become wedged, inconveniently close upon the cleats.
Having thus fully described my said invention,
What I'claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, iS.- l 4 In combination with a bed-rail and post, the cleats F H and clamp G, substantially as described.-
-ABNER S. DALBEY.
