Description

(NoModeL) H. N. HALL.
TABLE comma.
Patented June 9, 1 885.
INVBNTOR ATTORNEYS.
NITE STATES ATENT OFFIC HARVEY N. HALL, OF EVANSVILLE, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO UEL W. ARMSTRONG, OF SAME PLACE.
TABLE-CORNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 319,903, dated June 9, 1885.
Application filed August 11, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARVEY. N. HALL, of Evansville, in the county of Vanderburg and State of Indiana, have invented new and Improved Table-Corners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide firm and durable fastenings for securing tablelegs to the frames; and to that end it consists in a curved clamping-iron and a curved stud or block, combined with a table frame and leg, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in
1 5 which similar letters of referenoeindicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is an inverted plan view, partly sectional, of a table-corner with the improvement. Fig. 2 is a section through the leg and corner on linear w of Fig. 1.
A A are the rails of the table-frame, and B the corner leg.
In the angle between the rails A a piece, 0, is secured to the table-top, so as to brace and connect the rails, and with the latter give a firm support to the leg.
D is the clamping-iron, made with a T- head, a, at one end, that is within a slot, b, formed in the leg, and having an eye at the 0 outer end that takes over a screw-bolt, d, on piece 0, so as to be clamped by the nut e on the bolt. The iron D is curved and lies upon a curved stud or block, f, that is firmly attached on piece 0.
5 The head a of the iron is enlarged, as is also that portion of the slot 6 in the leg that receives the head, so that the head interlocks and holds its whole length. When nut e is screwed down on the end of the clampingiron, it holds or adjusts the iron on stud f with o a pressure that tends to draw the iron end- Wise, and consequently draw the leg tightly into place against the rails A and piece 0. At the same time the stud f braces the iron, so as to hold it firmly in place. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, with the corner frame and leg, the latter having a vertical slot and aperture, of the T-headed clamping-iron and the adj usting-bolt, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The corner frame constructed, as described, with side and top pieces to receive and brace the leg, in combination with the T7 headed curved clamping-iron, and the bracing-stud for clamping the curved iron, and the adj usting-bolt, as set forth.
3. The combination, with the corner-frame, table-leg, and clamping-iron, of the curved bracing -stud and means for adjusting the clamping iron, substantially as described, whereby the clamping-iron will be drawn inward by adjustment in one direction, and thus made to lock the table-leg firmly to the cornerframe, and unlocked by the contrary adjustment, as set forth.
