J. A. BUEL. TABLE LEG FASTBNING.
Patented Apr. 4, 1893.
@Wa e 3 a T UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JEssE A. EUEL, or AKRON, oI-no.
TABLE-LEG FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 494,547, dated April 4, 1893.
Application iiledDecember 12, 1892. Serial No. 454.889. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, JESSE A. BUEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Detachable Table-Legs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to improvements in devices for detachably securing legs to ta bles and similar articles; and it has for its object to provide new and improved appliances for connecting the body with the legs; and also for retaining the corners of the table frame without mortising the parts together.
To the aforesaid objects, my invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described, and then specifically pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
In the accompanying drawings in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts in the several views; Figure l is an elevation of my improved attachment, looking from the under side of the table top toward one corner thereof, and showing parts of the table frame and leg; Fig. 2, a similar view of the attaching bracket and portion of the leg, looking from the opposite direction; Fig. 3, a vertical section of the same through the center of the attaching bolt; and Fig. 4, a horizontal secti0n,'through the center of the attaching bolt, of the leg, corner of table frame, and attaching clamps.
Referring to the drawings, A, B, represent two sides of the table frame, united at a right angle. Fitting in the corner thus made between the parts A, B, and secured therein by screws, is a casting O, constituting a rectangular bracket, having an inner configura tion adapted to receive the leg D, and pierced with a bolt-hole E, about which it is reinforced as shown, to receive a bolt F, which passes through the leg D, and enters a faceplate G, on the opposite side of which it is retained by a thumb-nut H, or equivalent device. By this arrangement, I not only brace and unite the corner ofthe parts A and B, without mortise or tenon,but securely retain the leg D in place; whence it is readily removed forpacking or shipment.
I claim as my inventionl'. As an improved device for uniting legs with tables and similar articles, a metallic bracket adapted to iit and be secured in an internal angle of the table frame, and arranged to hold a retaining-bolt; and aretaining-bolt arranged to iit and be retained by said bracket, and a face-plate adapted to receive said retaining-bolt, combined with a leg, arranged to fit the internal faces of said bracket and face-plate, and provided with an opening to receive said bolt, substantially as described.
2. As an improved means for uniting table corners and legs, a corner-bracket arranged to fit t'ne inner angle of and connect the table frame, combined with aleg adapted tot said bracket, a face-plate adapted to engage the opposite face of said leg, and a bolt passing through said bracket, leg and face-plate, and a thumb-nut to secure said bolt, substantially as shown.
In testimony thatI claim the above I hereunto set my hand.
JESSE A. BUEL. In presence of C. E. HUMPHREY, C. P. HUMPHEEY.
