FERDINAND DAVEDSA AND JOHN GAMPANELLO, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED COLLAR-BUTTON AND NECKT IE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 15, 1907.
Application filed December 1, 1906. Serial No. 345.876.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that we, FERDINAND DAvnnsn and JOHN CAMPANELLO, citizens of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful improvements in a Combined Collar-Button and Necktie-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined collar button and necktie holder designed especially for use at the back of the neck, aml'comprises a pair of separable button sections, together with a tie holder carried by one of said sections.
The invention has for its objects to provide a comparatively simple, inexpensive device 01 this character whereby the collar may be conveniently and securely attached to the shirt, one which when employed in connection with the commercial turn-down collar will space the layers of the collar to prevent binding of the tie therebetween, and one which when utilized in this connection will effectually support the tie from beneath and be practically invisible.
With these and other objects in view, the invention comprises the novel l'eatures of construction and combination 01' parts more fully hereinafter described.
in the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is rear perspective view of the holder carried by one member of the button. Fig. 2 is a front perspective view oi the holder and the button member carried thereby. Fig. 3 is a side elevation oi the device, showing the tubular button member in section. Fig. 4 is a rear elevation, showing a modified embodiment of the holder. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the same.
.Rcl'crring to the drawings, it will be seen that the device as a whole comprises a pair oi separable button sections 1 and 2, ol' which the latter, which is provided with a broad, flattened inner portion or shank 3, is fixedly attached to and carried by a tie holder 4, preicr ably composed of shee metal and having one of its ends l'olded upon itself to form a substantially U-shaped tic engaging portion or hook (i, the engaging base face of which is convex as at 7 to l'acilitate l'ree movement ol' the tie, as more l'ully hereinaiter explained.
The button member 2, which is in the i'orm of a cyl inder stud and has an enlarged outer end 8, is bilurcated longitudinally throughout a portion of its length to form a pair of relatively movable spring sections or jaws 9, while the member 1, which is provided with end heads 10, is of tubular form to fit upon the member 2 and has its central bore slightly enlarged at its iorward end to accommodate the head 8.
In practice, the button member 1 is introduced into the buttonhole or' buttonholes at the back of the shirt neckband and the member 2 carrying the holder is inserted through the rear buttonhole oi the collar and entered into the tubular member 1 during which opera tion the jaws 9 will pass through the member 1, it being understood that when the member 2 is fully seated within the member 1 the jaws will spring apart with the head 8 fitted in the enlarged end of the tubular member for holding the latter in place on the member 2. When the device is applied the collar will be held on the shank portion 3 of the member 2 between the adjacent head 10 and tie holder, which latter will, in the instance of the turned over collar lie between the folds of the collar for spacing them apart to permit free running movement oi the tie, which wilhbe supported from beneath by the hook 6 and the movement 01' which will be facilitated owing to the provision of the.
surface 7 on which the tie may ride freely.
In Figs. 4 and 5, there is shown a further modification oi the invention wherein the tie holder is in the form of an elongated, longitudinally curved member or plate 13 bent to coniorm to the curvature of the collar and having at its ends U-shaped tie engaging portions or hooks (i provided'with iinner curved bearing walls 7, as in the instance of the device shown in Figs. 1 to This iorm oi the device, which is employed especially in connection with turned down collars. serves to more effectually space the folds of the collar apart for the purpose of preventing the tie from binding therebetween. In other respects the construction and operation are the same as in the other iorms oi the device. It will be understood that when the device used in connection with a standing collar, the holder 4 will be disposed for the hook G to engage above the upper edge of the tie.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is:
l. A combined collar button and necktie holder compris ing a pair of separable button members, and a tie holder connected to one of said members and provided with a tie engaging hook having a convex tie receiving base.
2. A combined collar button and necktie holder compris ing a pair of separable button members and a tie holder attached to one of said members, said holder comprising a normally curved plate, the terminals of said plate having hooks to engage the tie, the bases of the tie engaging hooks being convex.
In testimony whereof, we afiix our signature in presence of two witnesses.
