Description

' "tits/x1I 5mm @anni @fitta wwlgggggagaam IMPROVED VGill:OBIEl-V'AIlZTIEl.
The Schedule referred to in theealletters Patent and making part of the um.
To all whom 'it-may conce-rn:
Be it known that I, H. H. HENDRICK, of Dayton, in the county of Montgomery, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Globe- Valves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the aoeornpanying drawings, forming'part of this specification'.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in globe-valves, whereby they are made more use- `ful and durable than they have hitherto been; and
vItveonsists in providing the valve with a loose independent guide for the stem, whereby the stem is held to its place while the valve is being reground.
The drawing represents a longitudinal section of the shell, with the valve and stem therein, and with the stem-guide in place.
A A' is the shell, formed of two parts, which screw together, the part A'forming the nut for the serew on the stem.
B is the stem;
. O is the valve D is the cap;
E is the hand-wheel; and
F is the independentstem-guide.
As seen in the drawing, this guide is placed between the two parts of the shell, Where it is confmed by the ange around its upper side, as seen in the drawing.
When the valve Gis turned on its seat for grinding, it will be seen that the upper portion of the shell A must .beremoved from the lower part A, on account of the screw.
In this case, the valve-stem is held in a position perpendicular with its line of rotation, so that, in grinding, the seat and face of the valve may beaecurately iitted together.
g represents a loose ring, or washer, under the cap D, for bearing upon the packing, h, around the stem.
By this arrangement, the diftculty heretofore experienced in grinding globe-valves is avoided. v
This stem-guide may be used to good advantage in all valves of similar construction, whether denominated Y globe-valves, ornot.
I elairn as new, and desire tosecure by Letters Patent- In combination with a globe-valve, or other valves of similar construction, the loose guide F, substantially as herein shown and described.
