Description

N. PETERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON o c if tutti @tutti 'l 'Il' FREDR1CK-FISCHBECK,
Letters Patent No. 86,742, dated February 9, 1 Si9J or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVE!) METALLIC PROTECTOR OR SHILD FOR TRAVELLING-BAG'S.
The Sohedule referre. to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'itlma/y concern Be it known that I, FREDRICK FrscHBEcK, of the Ycity of Chicago, in the county of` Cook, and State of Illinois, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Travelling-Bags and similar articles; andl do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, and to theflet'ters of reference marked thereon, like letters indicating like parts wherever they occur.
To enable others skilled in the art to construct and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it, remarking that it relates to travelling-bags, and consists in the construction of a. new useful metallic protector, or corner-piece, for attachment to. these bags, or similar articles, to shield and protect the hinge or joint of the bag from injury, as well as to furnish additional resting-points when it is set down.
In the drawings- Figure l is a plan view of the frame of travellingbag, showing the hinge, with my protector, entire, on
one corner, and the protector, in section, on the other,
as attached; and
Figure 2 lis a plan view of my protector detached. The jaws of travelling-bag frames being hinged at their ends, and near the bottom or under side of the bag, frequently have these hinges broken or injured om careless handling, or other causes, and are also` .liable to be broken when the bag is allowed to fall violently on its under or bottom side.
To strengthen these corners, protect the hinges, and thus securely guard against injuries of this kind, is the obj ect of my invention.
Io accompiish this, I cast, out of iron, or other suitable metal, an L-shaped corner-piece, F, with iianges, a and l), and a knob or foot, g, as clearly shown in iig. 1. This I call my f protector for the hinges of the bagframes.
It may be made of any size desired, for the purpose of fitting the articles to which it is to be attached.
This is done, as clearly shown in tig. 1, in which is represented a bag-frame, E, with its jaws A and B hinged at C, and connected by a suitable cross-piece,
CD, vforming a part of one of them, if desired, or in any of the usual Ways, and the protector F attached.
I attach it by means of rivets, al, which pass through holes, c, inthe protector, and in the frame E, made for that purpose, as shown in fig. 1, and with its knob, or foot, g, on the under side, and the anges a and b extending over the rim ofthe frame, as shown in the same ligure.
As this protector is made of cast-metal, its solidity and strength securely guard the hinges from injury, and its foot, or knob, furnishes a substantial foot for the bag to rest upon.
Having thus described my invention,
The cast-metallic protector F, constructed 4and attached to travelling-bags, or similar articles, substantially as herein described and for the purposes set ferth.
FBEDRIGK FISQ'HBECK.
