UN TED STATES PATENT OFFICE JACOB F. KNORR, on ORANGE, NEW-JERSEY.
HAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,924, dated April 1, 1884.
I Application filed August 18, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J AGOB F. KNORR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Orange, in the countyof Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Harries, of which the following is a specification. r
This invention has for its object to provide a simple and efficient metallic hame of.
novel construction; and the invention is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a front view. Fig. 2 is a rear view. Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the line as m, Fig. 1. Fig. 4. is a like section on the line y y, Fig.1. Fig. 5 is a like section on the line 2 z, Fig. 1.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
The letter A designates the body of a hame which is shaped like a trough, it being widest at the edge or open side thereof, which constitutes the rear of the article; and it will be readily seen that by this shape the heme-body is adapted to be cast without the use of a core,while it possesses the strength and lightness in weight of a tubular core.
On the edges of the trough-shaped hamebody Aare castlips or offsets B, which tend to widen such edges, and thus form a superior At the proper part of the hame is located the draft-plate D, which is sunken into the edges of the trough-shaped body flush or nearly so therewith, to preserve the proper bearing of such edges on the collar, and which is held in place by rivets e, passing through the lips B. The strap loop or staple F is secured in place and the dIaft-plate,the rivets g passing through the draft-plate, the loop or staple, and the outer' offset, B, of the hame-body.
To the upper end of the hame-body is fast ened the top H. This top has a downward projection, I, which overlaps the hame-body, and which is shaped to entirely cover that portion of the body which is exposed when the hame is put on a collar.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A harne consisting of a trough-shaped body, A, the draft-plate D, sunken into the edges of the body and riveted to such edges, and the strap-loop F, having its endsinserted between the body and draft-plate and secured thereto, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the trough-shaped harne-body A, having offsets B at its edges, with the draft-plate D sunken into the harnebody, and rivets attaching the edges of the draft-plate to the offsets, substantially as described;
In testimony whereof I havehereunto set my hand and sealin the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
