EDWIN LOVELL, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
EXERCISING APPARATUS FOR CHILDREN.
no, 866,728. f
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 24, 1907.
Application filed July 10, 1905. Serial No. 269,123.
To ull whom il, may concern:
Be it known that I7 EDWIN LovELL, a subject ot the King ot Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 54 .lacklriars road, in the county ot London, S. E., England, have invented certain new and useful'Improvements in Exercising Apparatus lor Children, of which the tollo'winf.,r is a specilication.
This invention relates to an apparatus i'or use in the .nursery by young children which is intended to assist them in learning to walk, and strengthen the limbs and muscles generally, and also orins a salety. playground in which the child niay aniuse itsell without tear oi accident and without requiring the care of an attendant.
The apparatus consists ol a traine l'or convenience of rectangular torni having side and end rails inclosing a space in which the child is confined and on the side rails is carried a swinging chair which the child can sit in and swing or push along.
In order that this invention niay be more readily understood, rei'erence is had to the accoinpanying,r sheet ot drawings in which Figure l is a side elevation oi' an apparatus according to iny invention showing a swingingI chair in position; Figs. 2 and -l are respectively a plan and an end view ot' the saine apparatus; Fig. l is a sectional detail taken on line XX F l., showing the niethod ol' supporting the swinging chair on the side rails.
The lower part ol' the apparatus as shown in Figs. l, 2 and 3 consists oi the stout corner posts A, lour in number, connected together by the side rails B. At one end a tray C may be employed connecting the posts A together, this tray being connected at its end to the posts through the slotted brackets c and the set screws cl, the slots allowing the height ol' the tray to be adjusted. This tray serves to hold the childs toys, i'ood or any snlall article which may be required.
Ynieve and is supported by the side rails ii' required.
The swinging chair D turns upon the pins (Z at the top and is carried at each side by a support shown in detail in Fig. 4 consistingl ol the two cheeks or plates E and El hinged together at c and provided with the clamping screw el which when screwed up tightly causes the cheeks to bind upon the rails B which pass throng-h holes i'orined by seinicircular `grooves in both the cheeks. When the clamp is not screwed up tightly the support is tree to slide upon the rails and the child can therefore push his chair to any point desired.
What I clairn as iny invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent isz- 1. Exercising apparatus for children, consisting of n traine forming an inclosure constructed ol corner posts, supporting bases, adjustable brackets attaching the corner posts to the bases, rails connecting the posts to 4zg'etller, a tray at one und of the traine and adjustable brackets connecting; the tra)r to the posts.
2. Exercising' apparatus for children, consisting;- of a traino formingA :in inclosure, constructed ol corner posts und connecting; rails, u suinging,l chair and a support for the chair sliding on the side rails ol the frame.
3. In exercising apparatus l'or children, a traine forinim.,r an inclosure, constructed ol' vertical posts and horizontal connecting rails, :i swinging chair and n support for the chair consistnv of hinged cheeks or jaws ernbracing the side rails of the frame and means t'or clamping the jaws'on the rails.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
EDWIN LOVELL.
Witnesses Gnouon FRnDnrc RAYNER, (,liiAnLns EDWARD WEISS.
