Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Aug. 6, 1907.
kpplioation filed July 10, 1906. Serial No. 825,536-
To all 'wlimn it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPHINE KELLOGG, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented a new and usefulBust-Supporter, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in bust supporters and hasfor its object to improve the -construction and increase the utilityand efliciency of de- With these and other objects in view which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the invention consists in certain novel featuresinvention capable of carrying the same into practical operation, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle -or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention within the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved device from the front. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the improveddevice from the rear. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section through the body of the device. I
The improved device comprises a body 10 of suitable light fabric, preferably of linen, and made to conform to the contour of the bust of the wearer by numerous darts 11 or by other suitable means.
Attached to the body 10 are stays 12 of resilient material, spaced apart and curved to conform to the 4 body and thus maintaining the shape thereof, 'while at the same time yielding to the natural movements.
The stay members are of whalebone or other suitable material and'as light as possible consistent with the strains to which they are subjected when in use.
Connected at 13 14, intermediate their ends to, the opposite sides of the body at the lower portion are straps l516, the straps 15 formed into a loop 17 below the body and to'which a hose supporter member 18 is connected, while the strap 16 is formed into a hose supsame.
The straps 1516 are extended 7 upwardly into shoulder straps 23-24, the latter detachably connected as by buttons 2526 or other suitable fastening means to the upper portion of the body 10. The straps 1516 are connected at the back of the wearer by webs 27, serving the two-fold purpose of a connecting means for the straps but also brace and support .the back of the wearer. 7
One of the straps is separable as at 28, to facilitate the placing of the device upon the person.
The supporter thus constructed presents a smooth rounded appearance and holds the bust firmly in a natural position and close to the'body, and effectually prevents the muscles of the face and neck firom sagging.
The hose supporter portions of the deviceare connected by suitable detachable fastenings 2930 so that they can be detachedwhen required or when the bust supporter device is to be laundered.
The device can be inexpensively manufactured and constructed in all desired sizes and of any suitable material. a
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is-.-- i
1. A device of the character described comprising a body one end tothe ends of the upper edge of the body and at their other end to the lower-edge of the body adjacent the center thereof, said straps being secured intermediate shaped to conform with the part to be supported; oppo siteiy disposed straps non-detachably secured at one end to the ends of the upper edge of the body and at their other end to the lower edge of the body adjacent the center thereof, said straps being secured between their ends to the ends of the lower edge of the body to form lower depending loops and upper arm-receiving loops, flexible webs connecting the intermediate portions of the arm receiving 'loops;- one of said loops being formed of separable parts, means for detachabiy connecting the parts of the separable loop, and; hose supporters detachabiy connected to the depending loops.
. In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I
JOHN F. TYLER, Jorm A. McGnE.
and also exerted entirely upon the front portion of the conforming to the part to be supported, straps secured air
