ROBERT G. COBLENTZ, OF NILES, OHIO.
wAsHsTAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 30, 1907.
Application filed December 13,1905. Serial No. 291,648.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT O. COBLENTZ, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Niles, in
the county of Trumbull and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washs'tands, of which the following is a specilication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in wash stands, and the invention has for its object to provide a novel form of wash stand which can be adjusted to any desired height, or folded, to oceupyy a comparatively small space within a room or compartment.
Another object of this invention is to provide a wash stand which will be extremely simple in construction strong and durable, and easily adjusted or folded.
The improved device will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and referring to the drawing accompanying this application, like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved wash stand, Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same, with the table portion partly broken away, Fig. 3 is a bottom plan of the wash stand or table top, Fig. 4 is a top plan of the improved device. Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail sectional view of the joint between the table or top and the supporting standard.
To put my invention into practice, 1 construct my improved stand of a base l,having suitable supporting feet 2. Centrally of the base is mounted a hollow or tubular standard 3 adapted to telescopically receive a post or rod 4. The upper end of the tubular standard 3 is provided with a set screw 5 adapted to engage the post or rod 4 and hold it in its adjusted position within the standard 3. The upper end of the post or rod 4 is flattened as at 6, to fit between depending pierced lugs 7, 7 carried by a plate 8, secured by screws 9, 9 to a wash stand plate or top 10. The portion 6 is formed with one side rounded and the other side squared, the squared portion bearing against the plate 8 and limiting the movement of the top l0 in one direction and the rounded portion permitting the top to swing to a vertical position in the other direction. A pin 11 is employed for pivotally connecting the lugs 7, 7 to the upper end of the post or rod 4, and the plate 8 which is carried by the bottom face of the top or table 10 is provided with a recess 12 atY one end to receive the free end of a pivoted bar 14, carried by a sleeve 15 secured upon the post or rod 4. The bar 14 is adapted to brace and support the plate l0 in a horizontal position, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, said brace preventing the plate 10 from tilting when being used, but being easily detached from said plate when it is desired to fold the same in a vertical position coinciding with the post or rod 4.
The wash stand plate or top l0 adjacent to one end is provided with a shouldered opening 1G, to receive a wash basin or the like receptacle. The opposite end of the plate is provided with a recess or groove 17, to form a pocket for soap or the like articles.
The telescopic standard, together with its appurtenant parts, are preferably constructed of light and durable metal, while the wash stand or top may be constructed of marble, thereby providing a neat and attractive wash stand, which when folded will occupy a comparatively small space, and when in use may be adjusted to any desired height convenient to the person using the same.
For transportation, the stand may be easily disassembled and its various parts conveniently packed into a small space, whereby the stand can be easily handled.
The completed stand maybe white enameled, similar to bath tubs, and the like sanitary articles, whereby the stand will present a neat appearance when used in connection with said articles.
Such changes in the construction of my improved wash stand, as are permissible by the appended claim, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
What l claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isz- In a wash stand the combination with a base, a tubular standard carried by said base, a rod teiescoping in said standard, means carried by the standard for sustaining the rod in adjusted positions, a plate hinged to said rod and having an opening for the reception of a basin, an adjustable sleeve carried by said rod, a bar pivoted to said sleeve at one end, the other being free, and a notched plate carried by the first named plate and adapted to be engaged by said bar.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT C. COBLENTZ.
Witnesses CnAs. W. FISHER, EDWARD FLANEGAN.
