To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY C. SCHNEIDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pedestal- Tables, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in pedestal tables, with especial reference to that class of such tables in which the pedestal post is formed either integrally or of permanently united sections.

The object of my invention is to provide means whereby the pedestal legs may be removed from the post for shipment and readily secured in position by the dealer or user on arrival at its destination.

In the following description reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a view, partly in section, of the lower end of a pedestal post and its legs with my invention ap- Fig. 2 is cross sectional View, drawn on line x:c of Fig. 1. Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views of the key used for securing the legs in position.

Like parts are identified by the same reference characters throughout the several views.

A is the lower end of a pedestal post and B are the legs. The pedestal post is in the form of .an ornamental hollow cylinder, openat the lower end, and the legs B are provided with headed lag bolts C projecting from their inner ends through holes D in the lower end of the pedestal post A, which holes D are large enough to permit the heads of the bolts C to pass through. The head ends of the bolts project within the cylinder, and are engaged by suitable wedges F, which are inserted at the end of the post and driven into position between the heads of the bolts and the inner faces of the pedestal post, whereby the legs are bound tightly against the outer faces of such pivot. The wedges are forked, being provided with arms 1 and 2 so as to engage the head of the bolt on each side.

It is desirable that the wedges should remain permanently within the pedestal post whether the legs are attached or not, and I have therefore provided one of the wedge fork arms 1 with a slotted fiange 3 projecting laterally from the arm and through which a headed screw or pi'n G may be inserted and screwed into the pedestal post as shown in Fig. 1, the head of the screw being larger than the width of the slot so that the screw will retain the wedge while permitting it to move a distance equal to the length of the slot. The screw is so located that the wedge is permitted to move into and out of engagement with the head of the bolt, and is preferably located to permit the wedge to move outwardly along the inner face of said post.

With this construction, it is possible to apply the legs to the outside of the pedestal posts, with the lag bolts projecting interiorly through the holes D, and then secure the legs in position by manipulating the wedges through the open ends of the pedestal post. Centering pins it support and fix the position of the leg.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,

The combination with a hollow pedestal post, open at one end and having side apertures near its lower end, of detachable, laterally projecting legs having lag bolts projecting from their inner ends through said apertures; and wedge keys Within said post, extending longitudinally along its inner faces, between the heads of the respective bolts and said faces, whereby said wedge keys may be manipulated from the open end of the post; each of said wedge keys being forked and arranged to receive the lag bolts between the arms of the fork, and one of the fork arms of each key being provided with a longitudinal slot; together with a headed projection for each key, extending through the slot thereof and movably connecting the key with the post.
