Description

PATENTED JULY 9, 1907.
0. VON TRESKOW:
BACK SUPPORT.
APPLICATION FILED D30. 18. 1905- oTTo VON. TRESKOW, or EnnsTENWALDE, GERMANY.
BACK-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 9, 1907.
Application filed. December 18, 1905. serial No. 292,299.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO VON TREsKow, captain of horse, a subject of the German Emperor, anda resident of 7, Sembritzkistn. in Fiirstenwalde, a small place on the Spree, inthe Province of Brandenburg, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Back-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
1 The present invention relates to a baclosupporting device for use on walks, on excursions; in mountaineering and the like.
The device is adapted to be placed on a walking stick or alpine stock and to be held by a stronger person against the back of a Weaker person, walking in front of the latter, especially during the mounting of steep ascents, in climbing etc, whereby the weaker person is assisted in an effective manner.
One embodiment of the object of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in
which:
Figure 1 is a plan view, Fig. 2 a longitudinal section through the device with a stick attached to it.
In the form of construction drawn, theobject oi the invention consists of the plate a which is advantageously arched or curved to correspond to the horizontal profile of the back of the person to be supported, and the supporting surface of which, in order to prevent it from slipping, is provided with flutings, corrugations or the like, or is roughened, Whereas on the other side oi the plate a a socket is provided for receiving the point or end of a stick or alpine stock. This socket in the form of construction is comprised of a suitable number of spring tongues 1) formed integral with a ballc. This fits in a cup d suitably secured to the plate a, so that tllCSOCkOt b is connected with the plate a by a ball-andsocket joint, and it will be seen that a stick (2 (shown in dotted lines) being inserted in the socket I), the person supporting another may in each case move the stick in such direction as is required to assist the person in the most appropriate manner.
As a special advantage of this invention, it may be mentioned that the new back-support can be carried in the most convenient manner in the pocket without occupying any space worth mentioning.
I am aware that it has previously been proposed to use plates, fitted with operating arms, [or the purpose specified, and I donot claim such invention; 1 Wish however to be understood that in no respects is my invention restricted in scope to the particular form of construction illustrated and described, but that the scope'is indicated by the appended claims.
What I claim is:
A back support, consisting of the combination of a plate adapted to receive the hack of a person, a cup (I secured to such plate, a ball 0 fitting in this cup and having spring tongues 1) adapted to hold the end of a stick, as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 5th day of October, 1905, in the presence of two subscribini witnesses.
OTTO VON TRESKOWv Witnesses Wonnmmn I'lAUPT, HENRY lIAsPER.
