Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 16, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALLEY Roor, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Aberdeen, in the county of Chehalis and State of Washington, have invented a new and Improved Arm-Rest, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for supporting the arm of a marksman so he may hold his gun steady, and its object is to rovide an arm supporting mechanism w 'ch will permit the arm to move freely under ordinary conditions but which will furnish a com aratively rigid support for the same when esired.
My invention consists in a frame to be secured to the body of the marksman, a brace swiveled thereon, and means to connect the end of the brace to the upper arm of the marksman, the parts being so constructed that the brace may be placed in arm supporting position by the marksman when bringing the gun to his shoulder.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a view of a man e uipped with this arm support. Figs. 2 an 3 are elevations of the support. Fig. 4 is a plan of the same.

It is well nown that more accurate shooting is possible when the elbow, of the arm holding the gun, is supported. My improved device is designed to afford this support at all times and will not interfere with the free movements of the body exce t at the instant it is in use. It is compose of a support and a brace. The support is formed of an upright portion composed of two parts, a sleeve 1 into which the lower end of the upper portion 2 is adjustably secured by the pin or screw 3. The lower end of the part 1 is flattened to form a plate 4 and this is secured to a band 5, preferably spring steel, that fits the body of the wearer. This band will rest just about the waist line. This band 5 is preferably inclosed in or faced with leather, as shown at 6 in Figs. 2 and 3, and this leather may extend to form the strap 7 that passes around the body. An eye 8 receives the strap 9 that may pass around the chest or over the opposite shoulder of the wearer, as shown in solid and dotted lines in Fig. 1. The upper end of the part 2 is formed semicircular, and has small holes to receive the pins at the ends of the pivot-bar 10. The semi-circular part 11 has shoulders 12 formed on its sides, upon which the brace may rest. This brace is mounted on the in or bolt 13 carried by the pivot-bar and is formed of two parts, 14 and 15, that telesco e. A in 16 may be used if desired to hol them in fixed relation to each other.
A pivoted s ring clamp or clasp 18 on the outer end of t e brace receives the left upper arm, near the elbow, and holds the brace so it may be placed on the pro er shoulder 12, when it will support the ebow. A slight rearward movement of the elbow carries the brace ofi the shoulder 12, when the arm can drop. The arm may slip along in the clasp 18 and may beslipped out entirely if desired.
The device may be readily adapted for left handed people by securing the pivot end of the brace to the opposite side of the bar 10 which is easily done by taking out the bolt 13.
Having now explained my construction, what I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In an arm support, the combination of an upright member adapted to be adjusted in length and having its upper end formed semicircular, a strap connected to the lower end of the same, a second strap connected above the middle portion, a pivot-bar mounted in the semicircular upper end of the upright member, a brace pivoted to the ivot-bar, and a clasp mounted on the outer end of the brace, said semicircular end of the vertical member having a shoulder to support the brace.
