'lhis as shown in tho drawing, is
of suflieient area to cover the spring of both folding members 13 and B. When the device is used as a lounge, the upholstering is folded on the dotted line (3 (see Fig. 11). For the purpose or readily attaching and detaching the upholstering member, the latter is provided with side flaps C and end flaps C each of which is provided. with openings or brrtton holes C adapted to engage buttons D suitably attached to the rrnder surface of the side and end rails of the two folding members. These flaps not only permit the upholstering to be readily attached and detached. but they also conceal or cover on the orrtside the rails of the two folding members.
Attention is called to the fact that in assembling the parts, the end projections of the part ii, enter slots or recesses A formed in the clothes receptacle A, while the extremities of the side rail IF" of the frame part it, engage notches A formed in the box or ventilated clothes receptacle A. liy reason of this construction the folding frame composed of the two members it and ii", is suitably and securelyconnected with tin-supporting base or box A. aml at the same time the folding part may be readily detached when desired.
When it is desired io have an arm rest for the lounge. the construct ion shown in detail in Fig. 3 may be employed. This consists of a part F1 normally of the same or approximately 'of the same width as the folding rnenrber li and provided with downwardly projecting studs i adapted to enter eyes A attached to either end A of the ventilated clothes receptacle. 'lhese arr'n rests may be attached to one or boll-r ends of the structure as ruay be desired. in the drawing only one is shown. For the purpose of making the arm rest. suitable for' the head or foot board of the device when extended for rise as a bed. the part i is provided with an extensible rail or vertical part IF. which is of the same height as the body of the part 1'). and is corrnected with a part i adapted to enter a space left therefor in the body of the part F.. To this end the body of the part i is formed double or composed of two parallel parts I and I (see Fig. '7).v \\'hen the device or article is used as alounge. this part E is shoved inwardly and concealed, but. when the part is used for a bed, lhis'is drawn outwardly and forms a tit) continuation of the body of the'part E, whereby a head or foot board of suitable width for the bed maybe had. It will be understood that-if two ofthe devices I) are employed, that these devices, when the article is used as a bed, will form both head and foot hoards therefor.
Attention is called to the fact that; the folding member 13*, is provided at each end with'a pivoted vleg F, which is adapted to assume the vertical positionas shown in Fig. 10 when the'part B is lowered to the horizontal position; and adapted to fold to the 110-, sition shown in Fig. 9, when the partB is made to assume the vertical position. This leg F is connected with the end of the member B by means oia pin F'- fixedly secured to the end of the said member and passing through a slot l'"- formed in the leg, whereby as the member IV is lowered and its lower extremity tremity to enter a locking'reccsi-r .F, formed in the end of the frame member whereby the leg is securely hold A of the receptacle-A (sele- Fig. 7).
against displacement in either'direction. By virtue of this structure, the two legs form a stable support for the folding member B when the structure is used as a. bed. I
In order to facilitate the adjustment of the exten-.' sible part E of the arm rest E, the part E is provided with a knob E which pases through a slot E formed in the part E of the arm res t, whereby the knob is allowed to move freely in theslot. This knob in connection with the slot may be used or not as may be desired.
For the propose of holdingthe upholstering securely in place on the folding line C, cords G (See Fig. 4) may be at tachcdto the inside of the upholstering along. the said line, and secured at their opposite extremities lo eyes Il'attaehcd to the part B. These cords G are drawn through the meshes or between the wire of the spring 1%. By means of these cords G, the upholstering is held securely to the frame work of the structure, on the folding litre of the members B and B".
From the finegoing description the use and operation of my improved device will be readily understood. Assuming that. the device is used as a lounge as shown in Fig. l, the member 1% may be lowered to the horizontal position or to the position shown in Fig. 2, by adjusting the dogs I! to release the parts 13". As the part B moves downwardly, the pivoted legs F automatically assume the vertical or supporting position as heretofore explained. The arm rest E being in place as shown in Fig. l, the part E is extended as shown in Fig. 2 by simply pulling it out in the direction to form a head or foot board of suflicient width for the structure when used as a bed. The
manner of this adjustment will be readily understood. Now if it be desired to return the structure to the lounge position, it. is only necessary to raise the memher i to the vertical position when the parts B" are automatically interlocked with the spring-actuated dogs ii"; and the part E is moved inwardly to the position shown in full lines in Fig. 3. I
\\'hen it. is desired to remove the upholstering mermber U, as for instance when it is desired to clean the same, it is only necessary to untie the cords-G, and unbutton the flaps and C as will be readily uiider:
stood. I Attention. is called to the fact that in releasing the dogs B for the purpose of allowing'the folding mem beriltf tqoccupy thesame plane as the folding r'nemher B", the last named member should fit s t bc raised to the vertical position, allowing the mernberB to occupy the horizontal position, in which event thornember' B issupported by the pivoted logs F. In this event the weight of the member 13', and may be easily re-.
on the cords G as heretofore explained. The member B is then lowered to the horizontal position-'.
The arm rest E is provided with pivoted hooks E which are adapted to engage thgfdjacent oictremity HavingJ'thus described my invention, is i the dog's Btare relieved from the strain "incident to 7 12 5 what-T claim i 1.
