Description

Nm 859,028. lPATBNTBD JULY 2y 1907.
J. B. VIDAL.
TYPE WRTER CASE.
APPLIOATION-IILED OCT. 30,1906.
A TTOHNEYS UNITE Il srarns JUAN B. VIDAL, OF HABANA, CUBA.
TYPE-WRITER CASE Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July' 2, 1907.
Appiano-u sied october 30,1906. sensi No. 341,289.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JUAN VIDAL, a citizen of the Republic or Cuba, and a resident oi Habana, Cuba, have invented a new and Improved Type-Writer Case, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to celtain improvements in typewriter cases, and more particularly comprises a case designed to inclose all parts of a typewriter except .the key board, and being so designedfthat the machine may be operatedwhile inclosed within the case.' The ease is also so constructed as to deaden the sound made by the machine when the latter is being operated, and to permit the operator to see the work as it is being done, and the case also serves to exclude the dust, thus rendering it unnecessary to inclose the machine Ywhen the latter is not-in operation.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings vforming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, in which Figure l is a perspective view of one form oi my improved case; Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section thereof showing in dotted lines the cover in a partially open position; and Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section. i' v A y My improved case comprises a base board l oi a size slightly larger than the base' ofthe machine for which the case is designed, and the outer edge oi this base board may, if desired, be provided with au ornamental curved edge 2f Supported upon the base and extending upward therefrom, I provide a rear wall 3 and side walls 4. The rear wall preferably extends to a height slightly greater than that of the machine for which the case is constructed, while the side walls 4 extend upward to a height slightly less than that of themachine below the carriage. The side walls are provided with flanges or wings 5 extending outward in opposite directions and preferably parallel to the base l. These wings or ilanges extend outward to distances slightly greater than the outermost positions which the carriage may occupy during the normal operation ot the same. i
The rear wall `3 is preferably formed of two parts secured together by hinges located at approximately the saine height as the wings 5, and the upper section 7 of the rear wall carricsfwhat constitutes the upper or narrow strip er frame section .l0 directly below the front edge oi ythe glass top 9, and between this strip and the iront edge oi said top is a glass front ll, the center portion of which extends downward intermediatlethe sidof walls 4 of the case,'so as to lie behind the keys butinot r to interfere in l'any way with vtheir'normal operation.
It willl thus be noted that the case is made up oi two sections hinged together, the upper section compris- ',prising the rear .wall 7, the ends 8,; the strip l0, and .the l65 `glass top and iront wall 9 and ll'. The machine sets between the two side walls 4 and the key board extends outward in iront ofthe glass front wall l1 Vbut above the front portion of the base l. The upper o'r hinged section is oi considerably greater width than the lower or stationary portion ofv the case, and the ends oi the upper or movable section orm with the wings 5, pockets or recesses into which the ends of the carriage may be movedas the machine .is operated; ,1. The case thus serves toexclude the dust 'from ,ever-yi. 7 5; portionof the machine save the key board, and as the y i carriage may be returned to its original position after each line is written. by means o a key located upon the keyboard, it will be entirelyunnecessary to open 'the case from the time the sheet of papel-is fust in- 80 I serted until the complete page is written. The glass front and top permit oi an inspection of the work and prevent the paper from being soiled while within the machine.
Theybase of the caseis provided` with a. soit rubber cushion l2 upon which the machine rests, and the in- Having thus described my invention, I claim `iis/new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
i. A typewriter ease having' n. basel :i rexlr'wall, oppositely-disposedside walls, and a transparent top wall, said case being,r provided with pockets extending outward at right angles to said side walls and in opposlte directions, said pockets being' adapted to receive the ends of the typewriter earrlagc,
2. Ay typewriter case having a base, a cushion o f dendening material thereon. vertical side` :ind rear walls, poclrels carried ny said side walls and adapted to receive the ends ol the typewritercarriage when the latter ln operation,r a lining of deadening nmteriul'or snld side und rear walls and said pockets, :lud n transparent top for 'said onse, a portion of the front of snld cns being open, l1()` whereby n machine contained therein muy be operated. ,l .f
3. A typewriter euse having a base, n rubber cushion thereon. :i rear wnll, opposltelyallsposed side walls, outwardly-dlrccted wings or Hangers carried by snld side walls and of u width less than the width ofthe base, end walls adjacent the extremities of said wings oi: flanges, and n glass top carried liylsnid rear wall and said end walls.
4. A typewriter ense. comprising a suit-Able hose, :i rear wall formed of two hinged sections, side walls supported upon said base, outwardly-directed wings or flanges adjacent the upper edges of said side Walls, end walls emried hy the movable section of the rear wall sind supported adjacent the ends of the wings or flanges and :1 top wall of transparent material supported liy said end walls :1nd the movable section of said rezu wall.
5. A typewriter ease, comprising u suitable buse, a rnb ber cushion' secured thereto, vertical, sidev and rear walls, :1 lining of sheet lead secured to said walls, outwardlydirected Wings or flanges adjacent the upper edges of said side Walls, and of less Width than said hase, n uiovolile i l l sei-tion hinged to said rear wall, end wzills Carried by the inovzihle section and supported adjzieent the ends of' the wings or flanges. n iop wall of transparent maxim-lol supported hy said end wnlls and the movable sei-lion o1' [he rear wiill :md all substantially the same width :is sziid wings or Hannes, and a transparent vert'lrzil front will] carried hy said end walls and supported upon the edges of the wings or Iiiinfzes.
lu testimony whereof I have signed my naine in this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
