Description
PATBNTED JULYz, 1907.
y fly-2,
fnl/enfan- EDUAnD WRTTEMBERG, F BERLIN, GERMANY.
FOLDING eUFF.
To ell whom it may comern: p
. Be it known that I, EDUARD WRTEMBERG, a citizen 0f the nited States of America, and a resident of Wilhelmstrasse 24, Berlin, Germany, have invented eertain new and useful Improvements in Folding Cuffs, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to acuti which can either be worn attached to the arm of the shirt or loosely as den tachable cuff. I
The object of the invention is to be able by means of folding er turning back several times to cover the side or place which has becomedirty, so that this cuff can be worn a longer time than the ordinary, ones, and always appears in a'clean and fresh condition.
Cuffs provided with iiaps which can be turned back when they become dirty, showinga clean edge again, are already known.' My invention relates to improvements in this kind of cuffs the principal features of the improvements being a more suitable and convenient arrangement of the parts, and a better placing of the padding, so that when the cuff is used Ain the folded form the edges are not unduly thick. To attain`this purpose the cuff ismade about double as long as usual and possesses a number of holes for the cuff links namely one pair in iront,
two pairs near the middle and for detachable cuffs also a pair at the back. The padding .of the eui does not go throughout but is interrupted in the middle, so that the cuff can easily here be bent back; after the bending the narrowest possible edge remains, and no breaking of the material takes place. In' the drawing a form oi construction of the new cuff is shown in the form of a cuff attached to a shirt sleeve.
Figure l shows the frontpart of the cuff, bent outwards. Figs. 2 and 3 show the cuff extended in two positions. Fig. 4 shows the front part of the cuff bent inwards. Fig. 5 is a partial longitudinal section after line I-I through the extended cuff, and Fig. 6 after line II-II through the folded cuff.
l is the shirt sleeve, on which, the cuff is sewed at 2.
Specification of Letter-'s Patent. Application nea octoberls, 1906. serial No. 333,969.
Patented hay 2, 1907.
This comprises-the back part 4 and front part 5. The outer material of both parts consists outside and inside of one piece while the padding consists of the back part 6 and the front par 7; between these a place 8 remains free from padding forming the bending place.
9 are the link holes, of which at the bending place two pairs are 'arranged so that after folding they meet one another. If for instance the cuff is to be Worn eX- tended, the cuff links are placed in the front holes. In order to prevent the cuff from coming too far forward, it is held back by means of the tab 10with button-hole and button 11 situated at a corresponding height on the sleeve, dirty at the edge, it is folded back outwards (Fig. l), and the linksare inserted into the middle pairs of holes, which lie over one another.' When the cuff is dirty in this position, the front part is turned inwards (Fig. 4) and thelinks are again inserted into the middle holes. In this way the cuffs can be turned so as to have three perfectly clean edges without the shirt itself 4needing to be changed. ln the case of cuffs separate from the shirt they can also be worn with the back edge towards the front, thus forming four available edges.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1s:-
A folding' cuil comprising?,y a front part and la back part of the same size and torni, said front part being adapted to fold back near the middle of the cu inside or outside thel back part. padding,l in the front and back parts, a tab having' a hutten hole, said tab boing attached to the back pai-t. a button, said button being fixed on the shirt sleeve and adapted to support the cud when used in the ex-v tended form, said curl being adapted for use in three dit-A ferent positions, substantially as'and for the purpose'sei:l
forth.
ln'testhnony whereof I have hereunto signed my name this iirst day of October, 100G, in the presencef two subscribing witnesses.
EDUARD wiin'rEMnEnG.
