Description

No. 858,694. PATBNTED JULY 2, 1907.
' 0. WINKLER. GGMBINED COLLAR BUTTON AND NECKTIE PASTENER.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 24, 1906.
OLOF WINKLER, OF MALMC SWEDEN.
COMBINED COLLAR-BUTTON AND NECKTIE-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2, 1907.
Application filed August 24, 1906. Serial No. 331,924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLOF WINKLER, office clerk, a subject of Sweden, residing at 127 Westergatan, Malmo,
Sweden, have invented new and useful Improvements tener, Fig. 4 the blank from which the fastener shown in Fig. 1 is made, and Fig. 5 the fastener applied to a button.
The fastener illustrated in Fig. l is intended to be sewed on to ready-tied neckties.
It consists of a plate or piece of plate-metal provided at its upper edge with two parallel inwardly bent hooks a the bend of which fits the shape of the head of the collar-button and which hooks are at a distance apart slightly exceeding the smallest diameter of the neck of the said button. The curvature of the hooks should conveniently be such as to bring their extreme ends to bear on the necktie. The plate, moreover, is provided with holes for sewing it on to the necktie.
The form shown in Fig. 2 is intended to be secured to a necktie which is tied by the bearer and which on being tied and on threading the fastener on to the collar button is secured to the fastener by being pressed against bent points 6 on the latter, first slightly downward and then upward, the points catching in the necktie and securing it in place. In place of said points a small pad may be employed which is attached to the fastener and to which the necktie is secured by means of a pin or the like.
The button shown in Fig. 3, has a small ball-shaped head, which may be made of a minimum size, and a slight depression or offset on the neck in the rear of the part adjoining the head, said depression fitting between the hooks of the fastener and preventing the latter from sliding farther on to the button. Evidently a button without this offset can be employed since ordinarily the collar prevents the fastener from sliding on to the neck of the button. The button shown in the figure, however, passes very readily through stiff button-holes owing to the shape and smallness of its head and consequently does not cause much wear of the button-holes The fastener is applied by inserting the head of the button between the extreme ends of the two hooks and then moving the fastener so that the head will occupy the bend while the neck is engaged by the hooks at the sides.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
A combined collar-button and necktie-fastener comprising a plate adapted to be secured to the necktie, parallel hooks at the upper edge of the plate bent inward to form a slot therebetween and a seat for a collar button head, and a collarbutton with a small ball-shaped head, a shank connecting said head and the stem of the button of approximately the width of the notch between the hooks of the necktie plate, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OLOF WINKLER.
