Description

c. R. & B. A. PEDEN.
I Grain Toller. N0.- 85,610. 4 Patented Jan. 5, 1869.-
fitmt an: PEDEN 'A-ND'B. A. PEDEN, OF FRANKLIN, KENTUCKY.
Letters Patent No. 85,610, dated Janna/r31 5, 1869,
mPRo'vEn GRAIN-women.
-v The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making pm of the name.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, 0. R. PEDEN andB. A. PEDEN, of Franklin, in the county of Simpson, in the State of Kentucky, have invented a new and improved Mode of Tolling Grain; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to theletters and figures of reference marked thereon, in 'whieh- Figure -1 represents a perspective view;
Figure 2, a vertical section; I
Figure 3, the bottom, detached; and
Figure 4, the bottom of the vessel seen from the top.
The nature of our invention consists in causing the grain to'pass through a box or vessel, in size to suitcapacity of mill, the bottom of which vessel or box has apertures in number to suit the toll to be charged; 0. g., if one-eighthis to be charged, there'are eight apertures; if one-sixth, there are six apertures, 85c.
These apertures are to be precisely of the same size, and should be furnishedwith' short tubes, a, b, 0, 8m, fig. 1, to correct the confusion of currents which would result in flowing through apertures with sharp edges.
. These tubes are necessary only when the bottom is constructed of thin material.
The miller, to take his toll, has only to connect a pipe or trough with one of these tubes, and conduct his toll to his own bin, and leave the residue to run for his customer.
The cone 0, figs. 2, 3, and 4, is designed to equalize the pressure on the several apertures, and to diminish the quantity left in the vessel.
The bottom, represented by fig. 3, is so constructed as to be easily taken on, and another Jone containing a greater or less number of holes, to suit the toll to be charged.
G H I, fig. 1,'represent short pins or hooks, designed to secure the grain-toller, by means of straps or otherwise, to the pipe through which the grain is discharged.
' What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by'Letters Patent, is
The vessel, having its detachable bottom provided withv the cone G and a number of perforations or tubes, 0. b 0, corresponding to the required toll, whereby any desired quantity of toll 'can be taken without measurement or weight, substantially as hereinshown and described.
