have invented certain new and useful inn 11. rmuung over the side of the double provements in Chimney Clean-Outs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a lull, clear. and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it' appertains to make and use the same. Y

My invention relates tocltintney cleaning apparatus; the object of my invention is to provide a safe, ellicient and durable clean out for a chimney. which may be operated either from the bottom or the top of the chimney; and my invention consists ol the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein illustrated and described.

Referring to the drawings, r designates the chimney. which is usually of square shape. Disposed in the upper portion ol" the chimnev is a cross-piece 5, which may be attached in any suitable manner. as by laying it across the opening in the upper end of the chimney. Disposed on tile cross-piece 5 1s a pulley (3, through which Is run a chain, which extends I down through the chimney over one side of" a double pulley 8, which latter pulley is pivotally secured to the chimney, as by the eye 9.

Attached to the upper end of the chain 7 is a link H). which is also attached to the upper end of a bar 11. provided at its opposite ends with scrc tv-tbreads. At both ends the bar 11 is provided with a collar 12, which collar is maintained on the bar as by the nuts 13, one nut litng disposed on each side ol" ach collar.

It is obviousl'roln the foregoing description that the bar 11, with the parts connected thereto, may be reciprocated from top to bottom and from bottom to top of the chimney, bf an operator stationed at. either end of the chimney.

In order to etl'ectively scrape the interior of the ehinmey, I provide for each side thereof a pair of telescoping scrapers 1S, prel'erably having an angular body portion ln and outwardly flaring llanges 18', which are provided in their arches with slots 1!). These members are slidably connected together by the rods 20, by bending the ends of said rods into the eyes 21. The rods are connected to the spring members 14 by the eyes 22 formed on said members, which latter eyes work into the slots 23 also formed in the arches of said members 18. By this construction, the members 18 being connected at their ends to the members 1-1, it1-will be evident that the members 18 will be normally held in their most distended position. But. when inserted in a llue or chimney of less dimensions than their greatest. length they will readily telescope into a smaller space. By reciprocat ing the parts through a chimney or llue, as described all the soot will be readily removed. It will also be understood that for chimneys and llues of a shape other than square the only change necessary in my invention is to substitute scrapers of a dill'erent shape, to conformto the contour of the llue or chimney to be cleaned.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: is:'

1.
