Description

S. ZAVE.
STOVEPIPE CLEANER.
APPLICATION FILED DEC.1|1919.`
1,362 ,660. Patented Deo. 21, 1920.
S Zwi/ef Z am? lit U Titi STANLY. ZAVE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
STOVEPIPE-CLEANER.
|Application filed December 1, 1919.
To QZZ 'zo/wm t mag/concern:
Be it known that I, .STANLY ZAVE, a citizen of Lithuania, and a resident of Chicago, in 'the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful limprovements in StoVepipe-Clcaners, of which the following, when taken in connection with the drawing iaccompanying and forming a part hereof, is a specification.
T his invention -relatcs to a device by means of which the horizontal portion of a stove pipe may -be cleaned.
Among the objects of the vinvention are to obtain an inexpensive means of keeping the horizontal portion of a stove pipe, in the home or `factory, cleaned of soot and ashes. A fiirther object is to obtaina device which will at all times be in position and condition for use. A further object is to obtain a de- Vice of the kind named which when not in use, is not particularly noticeable; a device which is easily operated, not liable to break or get out of order, .and comprising few parts.
In the drawing referred to Figure 1 is a Vertical section of a short section of horizontal stove pipe, showing a Cleaner and well therefor, and also showing a`portion of a Vertical section, partly in section.
. Fig. 2 is a 'bottom plan View, lookingnp-l Ward, of the horizontal section of said plpe;
. and
` Fi, 3 is a sectional view, online 3-3 of Fig'. 1, Viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
` A reference Character applied to designate a given part indicates said part through,- out theseveral iigures of the drawing, wher- `ever the same appears.
A represents a section-of :t wall, provided with stove pipe aperture o. B represents a. horizontal section of a stove pipe; and may be of any length, it being understood that the drawing is not made to a Scale. Z) represents Vertical section of a stove pipe. C represents an elbow to the stove pipe illustrated. Horizontal section B, elhow C and the upper part of section b, are shown in lon- ;zitudinal section in Fig. l. -D represents a depending pipe communicahle with ho'rizontalsection B, and is of su'hstantially the same diameter as said section. rl reprcsents the curved under side of the joining of pipe D and section B. E8, Figs. l and'l) represent a slide positionet -in the horizontal secl tion B, and adapted to be moved fromthe' Specfication of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 341,821.
position thereof which is illustrated by full lines in Fig. 1, to the position which is indicated by broken lines in said figure, to .close communication of said pipe D with said section, when the brush, hereinafter described, is not contained therein, and to partially close said communication when said brush is contained in said pipe or well. Said slide E is manualiy operable by handle F, and to permit the movementof said slide and handle the pipe B is provided withl slot G in which the center rod f of said handle F is slidably movable. When slide Ee is in the position indicated by broken lines in Fig. 1, part e of said slide covers slot G. H represents a cap which is arranged to close the lower end of pipe D. I represents a cylindrical brush having the central portion or body part the ends "'hereof are designated by characters J, and J1. To end J. of said brush I attach cord K which is coiled in cap H when said device is not in use; and to theend J1 I attach arm K1. -70 represents a cord, one end whereof is attached to arm K1 and the other end to handle 71:1. L represents a plate which is provided with aperture Z registeri'ng with a corresponding apcrture in` Vertical section b,
the brush is drawn from pipe D into and along the horizontal section B, moving over 'the slide Ee and through said section' VV hen said brush I has been drawn the entire length of horizontal section B, thereby brushing soot and ashes contained in said section into the Vertical section 7) of the stoVe pipe, said brush is returned to its initial position in pipe D by means of the cord K.
The above operation is repeated until said horizont'al section B is cleaned, and thereupon 'word K iscoiled in cap H, and said cap replaced on pipe l), to close the lower end thereof. Slide E8 is then moved, by means of handle F to the position indicated 'by broken lines in Fig. 1, to prevent the accurnulation of soot and ashes in said pipe D.
I claim:
.In combination, a vcylindrical stovc pipe provided with a slot, a cylindrical Well comj munic ating with said pipe, of substantially the same cross section and having an opening in the bottom thereof, a curved member joining one side jof said well and the under side of said pipe and adjaeent to said slot, a bijush adapted to contact with the Walls of said pipe and Well, a member in said pipe arranged to coversaid slot and adapted to be moved to obstruct communication between said Well and pipe when said brush' 1s re- I w 3 moved from said'well, a Curved 'arm Un sald taehed to said brush 'on the end opposite said firm, adapted to pass through the 'bottom'l opening in said well. i
