EDWARD E. PALMER, 9F LYN N, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CHESTER R. PALMER AND HARRY G. PAYR OW, OF LYNN, MASSA- CHUSETTS.
COAT-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. May 14,1907.
To all whom it may conoern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD E. PALMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at I Lynn, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Coat-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in a coat supporting device which has shoulder loops with the supporting member thereon, breast loops and lapel engaging members; and the object of my invention is first, to provide shoulder loops so arranged as to spread the shoulders apart and prevent the suspending member from wearing on the collar of the garment. Secondly, to provide outwardly rojecting breast loops. Third, to provide apel engaging members to keep the lapels in shape and coat from spreading open. I attain these objects by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
The perspective drawing illustrates a coat hanger with the coat thereon and coat in section.
The shoulder loops 1, suspending member 2, outwardly projecting breast supports 3, and lapel engaging members 4, constitute my coat hanger. It is constructed of one piece of Wire formed on a block. The shoulder loops rest near the top of the sleeve; the sides spring out to sup ort the garment 5 which keeps the suspen ing member 2 away from the collar 6 thereby preventing it from creasing or stretching it out of shape. The breast loops 3 project outwardly to conform to the shape of the coat when it is on the wearer, thus preventing sagging and like disfigurement. To keep the lapel in position and prevent the garment from swinging a lapel engaging member has been provided.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
' 1. A coat support comprising oppositely disposed shoulder loops with suspending member, forwardly projecting breast supports, and lapel engaging arms, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. A coat support comprising oppositely disposed shoulder loops with suspending member, spring wire breast supports or loops oppositely disposed and curved to conform to the normal condition of the coat, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. A coat support comprising oppositely disposed shoulder loops with suspending member, spring wire breast supports or loops oppositely disposed and curved to conform to the normal condition of the coat, spring members provided to engage under the lapel of the coat, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
4. A coat support comprising oppositely disposed shoulder loops with suspending member, spring wire breast loops, and spring lapel engaging members, constructed of one piece of wire.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, on this twentythird day of July, 1903.
EDWARD E. PALMER.
