Another object of the invention is to provide a detachable hook for the drawing tool which can be quickly removed and replaced by another hook and which will be firmly seated in place by a single screw.
In the manufacture of carpet the device used for drawing the pile-wires as usually constructed is provided with an integral hook. This hook by constant use becomes worn, and the tool must be removed from the machine for the purpose of filing and repairing the hook. Eventually the tool becomes absolutely useless and must be replaced by a new one.
The object of my invention is to provide a detachable hook which can be secured to the tool and which can be quickly removed therefrom for filing and repairing, or which may be replaced by a new hook at slight cost.
The objects and advantages referred to are to be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a side elevation of a pile-wire drawing tool having a detachable hook secured thereto and made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the opposite side of the tool shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of the hook.
Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates the body portion of the tool for drawing the pile-wires, said tool having at its end an aperture 2 within the body portion thereof and a recess 3 at its outer edge, an intermediate web 4 being disposed between said aperture and recess, as shown more particularly in Fig. 2. The detachable hook comprises the curved bill 5 and oflt'set portion 6 and an angular lug 7. The offset portion 6 is provided with a screw hole 8. The hook is secured to the tool 1 by passing the lug 7 through the aperture 2, and the intermediate web 4 being seated in the recess between the bill 5 and the lug 7, and a binding screw is passed through the web 4 and through the offset portion 6 of the hook.
As shown in Fig. 3, it will be noted that the outer surfaces of the hook and the body portion of the tool lie flush, while the bill mem ber 5 of the hook projects slightly beyond the upper edge of the tool to engage the pilewires.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that a pile-wire hook made in accordance with my invention may be quickly replaced by a new hook and. that the hook may be readily repaired without detaching the tool from the machine.
