By the usual method of constructing shawl-straps, a. bend ot leather is employed in the position occupied by ber-E, in which ense the weight of the article cau'-A riedteuds constantly, by the strain upon b21-il D, to draw the straps C C together, thereby slztckening ,the bend, and allowingthe bail to bend over the fingers, and crempend pain thein. The substitution of the rigid bm' E, which'mzty be of wood or metal, for the vcommon flexible leather bend, reduces the cost of the article, While it renders it of grec-ter usefulness, end the metallic rod c also tends to keep the bail I) in the form most conducive to comfort iu carrying. l
