LOCK-STRIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 23, 1907.
Application filed February 16, 1906. Serial No. 301,390.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ROBERT B. SWIFT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Portland, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented new and use ful'Improvements in Lock-Strikes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in lock strikes and more particularly to the construction of the striker. It is designed to make the latch bolt operate more easily when the door is being closed.
In the drawing herewith accompanying and making part of this application, Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved striker and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of same taken on a line passing through the ball bearlngs.
Same letters of reference refer to like parts.
In said drawings A represents a keeper of usual construction having the slot B for the latch bolt, slot 0 for the lock bolt and striker D, the outeredge of the striker being beveled as seen at K. The striker is provided with anti-friction balls E projecting slightly above the face thereof and held in place'by a steel plate F secured to the back side of the striker, one of the balls being located near the front edge of the striker. Theremay be an upper and lower series of balls.
The advantages of a plurality of balls in the same horizontal plane is that there is always anti-friction engagement of the parts from the time the latch bolt engages the striker until it passes into its slot in the keeper.
Having thus described my invention and its use I claim:
1. The combination with a striker of a plurality of anti-friction balls mounted therein andprojecting above the surface thereof, one
positioned near the front edge and the other spaced apart rearwardly therefrom.
2. The combination with a striker having a steel back plate of an anti-friction ball projecting above the surface of the striker and held in place by said steel plate.
