Description

To all whom it may concern AMOS A. HOTCHKISS, or HANNIBAL, MISSOURI.
Late Patent No. 85,096, dated December 22; 1868.
, FASTENING FOR WAGON-BODIES.
The Shedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the name.
Be it known that I, Autos A. HoroHKIss, of the city of Hannibal, county of Marion, and State of Missouri,"hav.e invented anew and useful Improved Fastening for Wagon-Bodies, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, referencebeiug had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a portion of a wagon-body. p
Figure 2 represents a transverse section of same, at
Similar letters indicate like parts.
The object of my invention is to produce a fastening, to unite the parts of a cart-body in such a manner that, while it ,will holdthem securely together, the body may be readily taken apart and put together again, and particularly such a fastening as, when applied to the tail-board of a wagon, ,will enable one to easily remove or securely fasten the same. A represents a portion of, an ordinary cart-body;
B,- the tail-board, sliding in grooves in the sides a a O, the cross-piece, on which the flooring rests; and b b, the usual shoulders, to keep the same in place. A socket being made in lJl'lBSG-ShOllldBIS, and alsoin the sides, as shown, in fig. 2, into each is inserted a bolt, having an eye on one end and a female screw on the other, as seen at c c c" c, fig. 2, and c c" c".', g. 5, the eye extendingabove the shoulder and through the sides of the body, as shown.
Into each of these works a male screw, d d d" d', fig. 2, d d d, fig. 1, which is held in place by a plate,
h h h h', fig. 2, h,-fig. 1, between its heads, and a shoulder, as seen in fig. 1, so that, by means of the lever-arms c e c" c", figs. 1, 2, it may be operated.
On the sides of the cart-body are placed hooks, g g, fig. 2, g, fig. 1, which are slipped into the eyes of c c, and then, by turning the levers 0 cf, the eye is drawn home, and the sides held firmly in place.
Across the tail-board of the cart is fastened a rod, D, having hooks, o 0, at either end, as shown in figs. 1, 2. These hooks being slid into'the eyes of c c, and the .bolts drawn home by the screws, the tail-boardisfirmly secured, and when it is to be removed, all that need be done is to release the hooks. v
The other end of the cart is fastened in the same way, the bolts, screws, hooks, 860., being arranged and applied in' precisely the same manner as above explained.
Should it be deemed necessary,'for the sake of strength, to have other fastenings, bolts and hooks may be attached to the sides, midwaybetwee'n their extremities.
. What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'
The fastening for wagon-bodies, above. described, consisting of hooks g y, 850., o o','&c., bolts 0 0, 8m, screws (1 d, 820., and rods, all arranged and operatingsubstantially .as and for thepnrposeshown and specified.
