Description

dIn itmI fittin @atrnt Gtfiflinr.
Letters Patent No. 95,923, dated October 19, 1869.
IMPROVED WAGON-STAKE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD MILNER, of Marquette, in the county of Marquetteand State of Michigan, have invented a new'and useful Improvement in Wagon or Bolster-Stakes; and 1 do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had'to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and being apart of this specification.
Figure 1 is a front elevation.
- Figure 2 is a side elevation.
Figure 3 is a view of my stake attached to a bolster.
Like letters indicate like parts in each figure.
The nature of my invention relates to an improvement in the construction and attachment of wagonstakes to bolsters; and consists in a metallic stake, provided with an eye at its lower extremity, which passes over the end of the bolster, where it is held in place by means of a suitable bolt, passing through a proper lug on the stake, into or through the bolster.
In the drawings, A represents a cast-iron stake, which may be made of any desired form, and which may be lightened, if required, by cutting out, as at a.
This stake is provided with an eye, B, at its lower extremity, of the proper size to slip over the end of the bolster O.
A lug, D, should be cast upon the outer edge of the stake, through which there should be a suitable hole,
to insert the bolt hereiubefore described.
If it is preferable, the stake may be made of wom and inserted into a suitable socket upon the top of a wrought or cast-iron eye.
By the use of a stake of the above description, the necessity of weakening the bolster by mortising, to receive the tenon of a stake, as ordinarily constructed, is avoided, and also thenecessity of banding the end of the bolster withan iron plate, as is often done; also, the necessity of the iron brace, which usually extends from the outer end of the bolster to near the top of the stake. v
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The stake A, when provided with the eye B andlug D, in connection with the bolster O, substantially as herein described.
\Vitnesses: EDWARD MILNER.
