TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, ALONZO BENEDICT, of Jonesville, in the county of Saratoga, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Neck Yoke; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part. of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a transverse vertical section of my invention, taken in the line x :11, fig. 2.
Figure 2,-a front view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate likeparts.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in the connection employed between the neck yoke and draught pole. Hitherto leather alone has been employed, and this soon becomes worn and cracked, and is very liable to break or give way.
The object of this invention is to obtain, at a small expense, a durable connection, and one which may always be kept in proper order without the aid of a mechanic.
A represents a portion of the draught pole of a vehicle, and B the neck yoke. On the neck yoke there are fitted two metal clips, 0 O, at a proper distance apart, and into these clips, at the under side of the neck yoke, there are fitted the ends of two U-shaped metal bars, D D, which are placed side by side in close contact, and are thus secured by the bolts a of the clips, and a bolt, 6, which passes-through the centre of the curves of the bars D D. These bars D D have each a chamber or recess, a, made in them at their inner edges or parts, to receive a piece of leather, E, to preventthe chafing of the draught pole This leather E, it will be understood, is clamped firmly in position by the bars D D, and it may, when worn by use, be readily removed by loosening the bolts .& b, and a new piece inserted. A piece of leather, (Z, is attached to the under side of the neck yoke to rest or bear upon the draught pole. It will be understood that the bars D D must be of such a size and curve to admit of the draught pole Apassing through it, and also admit of the chafing leather E being secured between their inner parts to encompass the draught'pole. The lower part of the leather E bears against a metallic stop or hold-back, F, attached to the draught pole as shown in fig. 1.
By these simple means it will be seen that a cheap and durable connection of the neck yoke to the draught pole is obtained; one that may always be kept in repair without the aid of a mechanic.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The curved or U-shaped metallic bars D D, attached to the neck yoke by means of clips 0 O, and grooved at their inner parts to receive and clamp'the chafing leather E, substantially as herein shown'and described.
