HARRISON D. FLEGEL, OF RAOINE, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO EDI/VARD J. SOI-IOWALTER, OF RAOINE, WIS- OONSIN.
DOOR-SECURER..
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 2, 1907.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARRISON D. FLEGEL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Securers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts hereinafter particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed, its object being to pro vide simple, economical, light, and portable means to be applied inside of an apartment of a building to a latch-keeper and knob of a door to said apartment to secure the door in closed position against opening from the out-' side.
Figure 1 of the drawings is an illustration of a door-securer in accordance with my invention applied in connection with a latchkeeper and door-knob, a fragment of the door and its casing being shown in horizontal section; and Fig. 2 of said drawings represents a perspective view of said door-securer.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A indicates one and B another section of a preferably two-piece flat metal tongue having a lug b projecting at a right angle from one side thereof. A right-angle flange 0 at one end of the tongue-section A is caught and clamped, with ends of a pair of tapes O, in a right-angle fold end of the tongue-section B to therewith form the lug aforesaid; but it is obviously within the scope of my invention to make the tongue from a single piece of material having a fold projecting at a right angle to the remainder thereof, in which to clamp ends of the tapes. The tapes are of the strong durable kind, such as are common in printing-presses and other machines as endless carriers.
As herein shown, the tongue-section A is thinner than the tongue-section B and oflset and curled at its free end. The thickest section of the two-piece tongue is slightly offset from the thinnest section, and the combined thickness of the tapes O and tongue-section A is approximately equal to the thickness of tongue section B when said tapes and tongue-section A are parallel between an edge of a closed door D and a latch-keeper E, with which the door-casing F is provided, the lug of the tongue being caught in the bolt-hole of said latch-keeper and door-casing.
The tongue and portions of the tapes being positioned as aforesaid, the remainder of the tapes are tied together to the shank of an adjacent knob G of the door to prevent the latter from being opened from the outside.
The door-securer above specified is applicable in connection with either a mortise-lock or a rim-lock, and said door-securer is a very simple, economical, durable, and reliable device of its kind. It also has the advantage of being light and occupying but little space when out of use, the tapes being then wound on the tongue lengthwise of same for convenience in stowing the device in a pocket of a garment or in a piece of baggage, the device as a Whole being very light in proportion to its strength.
I claim- 1. A door-securer consisting of a flat metal tongue having a right-angle side fold constituting a lug, and a pair of tapes having ends thereof clamped in the lug.
2. A door-securer consisting of a flat metal two-piece tongue one section of which is thinner than the other and provided with a rightangle end flange, the thickest section being provided with a right-angle end fold, and a pair of tapes having ends thereof clamped with said flange in said fold.
Intestimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Racine, in the county of Racine and State of WVisconsin, in the presence of witnesses.
HARRISON D. FLEGEL.
