Quilting-Frame, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has relation to quiltingframes; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts, as hereinafter shown and described.

The object of the invention is to provide a frame adapted to hold a quilt during the process of making and quilting the same. The frame includes end rails, to the ends of which is journaled a roller. The rails constitute two sides of the frame and the roller a third side. A bar is slidably located upon the rails and forms the fourth side of the frame. Said bar is adapted to move toward and away from said roller. Means are provided for attaching the edges of the quilt to the frame, and as the said quilt is completed the finished parts thereof are wound upon said roller. for the said rails and the bar. Said legs do not extend vertically down from the parts to which they are attached, but are located at the side thereof and are connected with the said parts by means of horizontal brackets. Thus the said legs are not in the way and will not interfere with the quilting operation.

I The frame includes end rails 1 1, which are provided with a number of perforations 2.

. The roller 3 is journaled at the ends of said rails 1 1. Said roller is provided with a number of eyes 4 4. The bar 5 is located in the same horizontal plane as the rails 1 1. Said bar 5 is provided at its ends with the straps 6, which receive the said rails 1 1. The pin 7 is adapted to be passed through the strap 6 and through one of the perforations 2. Thus said bar 3 is fixed with relation to the rails 1 1. The inner edge of said bar 5 is provided with a number of eyes 8. The brackets 9 are secured at their ends to either the end rails 1 or the bar 5 and extend laterally away from the same. The legs 10 are attached to Supporting-legs are provided said brackets. It will thus be seen that the legs 10 are not directly under the portions of the frame that they support, but are located at the side thereof. Thus the said legs do not interfere with the quilting operation.

The links 11 are located upon the rails 1. 1. Each link is provided with a friction-roller 12, which engages the outer vertical side of the said rail. The hooks 13 are attached to the links 11, and the free end of each hook is adapted to engage the next adjacent link and space the links at proper distances apart. The quilt 14 is secured, by means of the lacing 15, to the eyes 8, eyes 4, and links 11. As the quilt is completed it is wound upon the shaft 3, said shaft having at one end a pawland-ratchet mechanism 16, which normally prevents the said shaft from unwinding.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A quilting-frame consisting of end rails, a shaft j ournaled at the ends thereof, a bar slidably mounted upon said rails, legs supporting the frame, and laterally-extending brackets connecting the upper ends of said legs withthe frame.

2. A quilting-frame consisting of end rails, a shaft journaled at the ends thereof, a bar slid-ably located upon said rails, said bar and said shaft having quilting-engaging means, and links located upon said rails.

3. A quilting-frame consisting of end rails, a shaft journaled at the ends thereof, a bar slidably located upon said rails, and links located upon said rails and having frictionrollers which engage the outer edges of the rails.

4. A quilting-frame consisting of end rails, a shaft jouinaled at the ends thereof, a bar slidahly located upon said rails, links located upon said rails, and hooks attached to said links and each adapted to engage the next adjacent link and space the links apart.
