Be it known that we, FRANK E. OOLBUEN and FRED R. CULvER, citizens of the United States, residing at Medina, in the county of Orleans, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is an elevation of the rear portion of the Suspenders; Fig. 2, a horizontal sectional view on the line ll-ll of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 an edge View of the means for connecting the rear ends of the shoulder-webs to the back-straps.

One of the many objects of this invention is to provide Suspenders for trousers of simple and durable construction wherein the two shoulder webs or members will be so connected at the back to the back-straps and slidably connected together as to permit them to readily adjust themselves to the various positions of the shoulders to receive the varying strains and to distribute the strain brought thereon evenly to the back-straps.

Referring to the Various parts by letters, A designates the rear ends of the shoulderwebs, and B the back-straps, which are provided with buttonholes at their lower ends to adapt them to be connected to the trousers at the back in the usual manner. The upper ends of the back-straps and the lower ends of the shoulder-webs are provided with metal loops O. On the outer bar of each of these loops, about midway the ends thereof, is pivotally mounted a metal socket D. Connecting the socket attached to one shoulder-web to the socket carried by the corresponding back-strap are two parallel flexible strips E, preferably formed of cylindrical braided cords, the ends of these cords being rigidly clamped in the sockets D. The cords of each pair are unconnected between the socket D, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. Loosely mounted on the inner cord of each pair is a sleeve F, said sleeves being pivoted together permanently by means of atubular rivet G, which is located between the sleeves and serves to permanently and adjustably connect together the two members of the Suspenders.

From the foregoing it will be readily seen that should a strain be brought on one shoulder-web and not on the other the various parts of the device are free to adjust themselves to distribute the strain to both ofthe back-straps or to the back-strap connected to the opposite shoulder-web, as the varying strain may require. It will also be noted that the shoulder-webs may be readily adjusted to shoulders of dierent widths, and that the pivotallyconnected sleeves will adjust themselves to the varying strains brought on them.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. Suspenders comprising shoulder-webs, back-straps, flexible connecting-strips connecting each shoulder-web to the corresponding back-strap, sleeves loosely sliding on said connecting-strips, and means for pivoting said sleeves together between the connectingstrips.

2. Suspenders comprising shoulder-webs, back -straps, a pair of flexible connectingstrips connecting the rear end of each shoulder-web to the upper end of its corresponding back-strap, a rigid sleeve loosely sliding on the inner one of each pair of strips, and means for connecting together said sleeves between the inner connecting-strips,
