Be it known that I, ELIZABETH DEACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at St.

Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of I Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Stretcher Frames, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in curtain stretcher frames, and consists in the features of construction and combination hereinafter particularly described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved frame. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Fig. 3 is a front View of one of the cross-rails. Fig. 4 is an end view of the same. Fig. 5 is a detail of an extensionrail. Fig. 6 is an end View thereof. Fig. 7 is a cross-section of one of the upright bars, and Fig. 8 is a detail of the connection between the side bar and support.

As shown in the drawings, the device consists of a frame made up of side rails A and top and bottom rails B. The rails A and B are connected at their corners by suitable clamps 2. The top and bottom rails B each consist of bars 3 and 4, slidable upon each other by means of a longitudinal rib 5, carried by the bar 3, fitting into a groove 6 in the bar 4, the bars 3 and 4 being held together by a clamp 7, corresponding to the clamp 2. Connected by hinges 8 to the inner edges of the bars 3 and 4 and the side rails A are strips 9, carrying upwardly-extending prongs or fingers l0.

The bars 3 are wider than the bars 4, so that the strips 9, carried by each bar 4, may be folded upon the face of the bar, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 6, and the strips carried by the corresponding bar 3 then folded upon the face of said bar alongside the inner edge of the bar 4.

The strips 9 are extended back from the bars 4, as shown in Fig. 6, so that when the frame is set up the strips of both the rails 3 and 4 will stand in alinement.

11 represents standards which may be hooked to the side rails A, as illustrated in 'Figs. 1 and 2, to support the frame in upright and inclined position.

In use with the frame set up as shown in Fig. 1 the curtain will be stretched upon the frame, being hooked over the fingers 10, the

frame being suitably adjustable in length by means of the sliding connection between the bars 3 and 4.

As shown in Fig. 1, the strips 9, carried by the bars 4, are in sections, so that the end sections may be folded back over the bar when a shorter curtain is to be stretched.

The device may also be used as a quiltingframe by turning the strips 9 upon the faces of their supporting-bars and securing the quilt between the bars and strips.

claim 1. A frame of the class described comprising top and bottom and side rails detachably connected together at their ends, strips hinged to the inner edges of said rails and normally extending outwardly therefrom, and curtain-supporting means carried by said strips.

2. A frame of the class described comprising top and bottom an side rails detachably secured together at their ends, slidable members composing said top and bottom rails, means for securing said slidable members in adjusted positions, strips hinged to the inner edges of said side rails and to the inner edges of the sections of said top and bottom rails, the strips of said sections normally standing in alinement, and all said strips normally extending from said rails toward the center of said frame, and curtain-engaging means carried by said strips.

3. A frame of the class described comprising in combination top and bottom and side rails, hinges securing said rails together at their ends, a pair of sections comprising each of said top and bottom rails, said sections being slidable one upon the other, means adjustably securing said sections together, strips hinged to the inner edges of said rails and normally extending toward the center of the frame, the supporting-hinges for the strips of the outer sections of said top and bottom rails being projected rearwardly to allow the strips of said sections to normally stand in alinement and curtain-engaging means carried by said strips.
