PATENT OFFICE.
JOSIAH J. DEAL, OF CANTON, oHIo, Assrenoa TO HERBERT'S. BISSELL,
OF oANfroN, OHIO. 1
cu RTAAI N-STRETCH ER "FRAM s.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 740,543, dated October 6, 1963. I
Application filed February 28, 1900. Serial No. 6,156. (No model.)
the figures of reference marked thereon, in
which- 7 Figure 1 is a view showing the frame ex tended or in position for use. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view showing a portion of one of the Fig. 3 is a detached view of one of the curtain-retaining hooks. Fig. 4 is a transverse section through line as to, Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a similar view through line a b, Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a view showing portions of one of the end bars and side bars joined together, also the brace properly connected and illustrated, the parts partially folded. Fig. 7 is.
a detached View of one of the corner-braces. Fig. 8 is a view showing a portion of one of the end bars and the adjustable side bar, also illustrating the connecting-strap. Fig. 9 is a similar view showing the adj ustahle side bar locked. Fig. 10 is a detached view of the adj ustable side bar. Fig. 11 is a view showing the side bar and the end bars and cornerbraces folded.
The present invention has relation to ourtain-stretcher'frames; and it consists in the difierent parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim. 7 a
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the'drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 and 2 represent the fixed side-bar members, which are formed of any desired length, reference being had to the size of the curtain-frame designed to be constructed. The adjustable side bar is composed ofthe members. 3 and 4, which members are formed of a length to correspond with the length of the members 1 and 2, or substantially so, and to the members 1 and 3 are connected the clips 5, which clips embrace the members 2 and 4, as illustrated in the drawings.
To the members 2 and 4 are connected the clips 6, which clips are provided with the inturned flanges 7 which flanges are seated in the groovesS and are for the purpose of holdingthe members of each side bar in proper relative position and at the same time allowing the side bars proper to be adjusted to any desired length within the limits of their movements with reference toeach other.
For the purpose of holding the end bars 9.
at right angles to the side-bar sections 1 and 2 the corner braces or stays 10 are provided, which corner braces or stays are each pivotally connected to the end members 9, as illustrated in the drawings, and the free ends of said corner braces or stays are each provided with the pins 11, which pins are inserted in the apertures 12, said apertures being so located and arranged that when the pins 11 are inserted the side bar proper and the end bars 9 will be brought into the position illustrated in Fig. l.
The end bars 9 and each section of the side bars are provided with the grooves 13, which grooves are located upon the faces of said bars and near their inner edges and are for the purpose of receiving the curtain-retaining hooks 14, said hooks being provided with the shanks 15,,which shanks are to be located in the grooves 13.
It will be understood that by my peculiar arrangement the hooks 14 can be adjusted to any desired point, and any desired nu mber of hooks may be connected to the diderent bars or their position may be changed by sliding said hooks in the grooves or by removing the allow said straps to turn upon the members 3 and 4:, thereby allowing the ends of said members to abut against the inner edges of the end bars 9, and thereby look the adj ustable sidebar proper at any desired point upon the end bars 9, by which arrangement the curtain-frame proper can be given any desired adjustment with reference to width.
For the purpose of holding the side- member sections 1, 2, 3, and 4 at any desired point of adjustment with reference to length the thumb-screws 17 are provided, said thumbscrews being tightened after the side members have been given the desired adjustment.
It will be understood that by my peculiar arrangement I am able to provide a curtainstretcher frame that can be adjusted to any desired size both as to length and width, thereby providing a means for properly stretching different-size curtains.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the side bars consisting of the members 1, 2 and 3, 4, clips for connecting the members together, the inturned flanges 7 formed upon the clips 6, grooves 8 formed in the members 1 and 2, the pivoted straps 16, said straps extended beyond the ends of the members 3 and 4:, inclined grooves formed in the different members of the frame and hooks provided with shanks, the cornerbrackets 10 and the members 9, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of tWo witnesses.
