7 Letters Patent No. 84,603, dated December 1, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT m WAGON-SEATS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
- seat, and
Figure 2 is a bottom View of the same.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in both figures. v
The nature of my invention consists in the peculiar shape and construction of the springs of a wagon-seat, and in the device for making the latter adjustable to different-sized wagons.
A, in the drawings, may represent a wagon-seat of any suitable construction and material, resting on cross-pieces B, which again rest on the springs 0. These springs may be madeof any suitable material, and are formed with triangular blocks, 0, at their lower ends, by which they are secured to the beams or pieces D, by means of screws or bolts,-a, in such a manner that the straight springs 0 have an inclined position,
extending from the cross-pieces B to the centre of the beams D. By means of the triangular pieces 0, a firm and strong base is given to the springs G, and the weight of the person or. persons riding bears on the centre of the wagon.
The beams D have at their ends slots (1, through which pass bolts 12, which are secured in the cross or side-pieces E. Nuts e screw on the ends of bolts b, and firmly hold the side-pieces E to the beams D. As the side-pieces either straddle the sides of the wagon, or rest against the inside of the same, it will be easily seen that by means of the slots and bolts the seat can be adjusted to any-sized wagon.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let; ters Patent, is
I. The springs O, with triangular blocks 0 formed at their'lower ends,in combination with a wagon-seat, substantially as and for the. purposes described.
2. The device for adjusting a wagon-seat to anysized wagon, consisting of the slotted beams D, bolts b, nuts 6, and side-pieces E, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
a The above specification of my improvement in.
wagon-seats signed, this 21st day of September, 1868.
