IDPROVEIEENT IN LANTERNS.
- The Schedule referred to in these Letters P-atent and making pax-lof the lame.
To all, whom it may concer/n:
Be it known that I, THOMAS LANGs'rox, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, and in the State of New York, have invented a 'certain new and useful Improvefrnentin Lanterns; and do hereby declare that the fol. lowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the aecoinpanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consist-s in the inode of fastening or holding the upper and lower parts of a lantem together by means of clasps.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertaius, to make and use the san1e,'I will now proceed t0 describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, which 'form a part of this specication, and in which- Figure I is a side elevation, and

A represents the base of a lantern, around the up-` per part of which is a flange, c, of suitable width,
. which, Vat its outer periphery, is bent upwards, forming The upper part, B, ofthe lantern, is, as usual, around the glass, provided with guards, c c, which, at their size to lit snugly inside ofthe rim @resting on the flange a.
On the under side of the flange a, are pivoted two clasps, D, which work over and around the ange a,
`rm`b, and ring d, thus holding theupper and lower parts of the lantern lirrnly together. The upper sides of the clasps D are slotted, so that by turning the base around a little, the slo't fastens in one of. the guards c.
By this arrangement, the glass can be'easily removed and replaced, and the lantern at the same time made substantial and durable.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire t0 secure by Letters Patent, is-. A
Fastening the upper and lower parts of a lantern together by means of clasps, D D, pivoted to the flange u on the base, and working over said ange, and over the ring l on the upper part, said ring having the guards e c attached thereto, and setting inside the rimV b on the flange a, substantially as herein set forth.
