To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known, that I, KATHERINE E. CRocKER, a citizen of the United States, re= siding at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and Stateof New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bolster Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention consists in a bolster-holder which is a new article of manufacture of new, simple, and improved construction and particularly adapted to receive the bolster when removed from the bed and to keep it clean and unmussed.

My invention is shown in the drawings herewith, in which the reference letters and numerals of the description indicate the same parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my d'e vice 1n operative position. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device closed to be shipped and to be set aside when not inuse. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section of Fig. 2.

I11 the figures, A A indicate the standards, each composed of legs or le pieces 1 1, prefd or rounded upper ends 2 2 and of 'two or more cross-pieces 3 4, which may be mortised into the outer faces of the legs and secured by screws. To the upper cross-pieces 3 3 is hinged by hinges 5 a two-piece spreader 6, having a hingejoint 7 at its center. To the spreader-pieces near said hinge-joint are attached suitable braces, such as rods 8 8, having hooks 9 9 on their opposite ends to engage with eyelets 10 10 on the lower cross-pieces 4 4 to maintain or lock the bolster-holder in open or operative position. These hooked rods operate as detachable braces. When the bolster-holder is not in use, the hooks may be Withdrawn from the eyelets, and it may be shut into the closed position (shown in Fig. 2) and secured by short side hooks 12 on one standard engaging with eyelets or pins 13 on the other. The device closed occupies a small space, so that it is convenient for the smallest apartments and may easily be set out of the way in the day-time.

When made in the form here shown, it is closed easily by lifting one of the s readerpieces near the center after the hoo ed rods have been disengaged; but it will be understood that the parts may be otherwise formed and connected. Particularly the standards may be of a different form or design. The legs may desirably be somewhat thicker than the spreader-pieces, so that When closed the legs fit snug together and the folder spreader-pieces fit within the upper cross-pieces, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The standards and spreader may be made of wood of different kinds or finish to harmonize With the other furniture and the metallic parts .of brass or other suitable metal.

The utility of my device is great articu, larly in houses of the better class, w, ere attention is paid to the appointments of the bed-room. When the bolster is removed from the bed in preparation for the night, it is commonly laid on the floor or a chair, &c., which quickly soils the bolster or crushes its decorations, making necessary frequent washing of the bolster-cover or expensive cleaning, &c. In' place of so doing, my device may quickly be withdrawn from closet, behind end of bed or other convenient place and opened, and then affords a secure support for the bolster to maintain it clean and unmussed. The spread also may conveniently be laid on the holder for the night.

My bolster-holder may be instantly opened or closed and dusted. When it is in use, carrying the bolster, it may be set back against the wall, presenting a neat appearance and avoiding the unpleasantness and danger to small articles by a fall of the bolster, which often happens when the bolster is set on end or laid on a corner of a table, bureau, &c.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In abolster-holder, the combination with corresponding standards composed of parallel leg-pieces and cross-pieces, of a twopiece spreader connected to each standard by a hinge and having a hinge joint at its center, and of detachable braces extending from each spreader-piece to one of thestandards.

2. In a bolster-holder, the combination with two corresponding standards forming.

the ends of the holder and composed of par allel leg-pieces and of two parallel crosspieces connected to the leg-pieces, the legpieces extending below the lower crosspieces to form legs and extending above the upper cross-pieces to form forks to receive the bolster, of a two-part spreader connected at each end by a hinge to the upper crosspieces and having a hinge-joint at its center, said spreader being adapted to fold upwardly, of eyelets on the lower'cross-pieces, and of rods attached to each spreader-piece and having hooks at their opposite ends to engage pieces, said leg-pieces extending below the lower cross-pieces and above the upper crosspieces and having their upper ends inwardly beveled, of a two-part spreader extending between the upper cross-pieces, hinges connecting the ends of the spreader respectively to the upper cross-piece's, a central hinge connecting the two parts of the spreader, braces connected at their upper ends to the respective spreader-pieces adjacent to the central hinge and adapted to engage by theirlower ends with the lower cross-pieces to maintain the bolster-holder in operative position.

4. In a bolster-holder, the combination with two corresponding standards composed each of two parallel, vertical leg-pieces and of two parallel horizontal cross-pieces secured to the leg-pieces and fitted to mortises in the outer faces of the leg-pieces, of a twopart spreader-piece extending between the upper pair of said cross-pieces and connected thereto by hinges, a hinge connecting the two parts of the spreader, said spreader-pieces being adapted to fold together at said central hinge with their lower faces in contact, or adjacent, of eyelets on the lower pair of crosspieces, brace-rods'hung on each spreader-piece and having hooks to engage with the eyelets and lock the parts in operative position with the spreader horizontal, said spreader being of a less thickness than the leg-pieces, whereby the spreader-pieces may fold up together when the hooks are withdrawn from the eyelets, and side hooks on the edges of the legpieces to maintain the parts in closed and inoperative position.

5. The combination in a bolsterholder, of two corresponding standards, each having legs to set on the floor and afork to receive the bolster, of a single, two-piece spreader connected positively to the respective standards at its ends and having a central hingejoint connecting its two halves, and means to secure the spreader and standards in operative position.

6. In a bolster-holder, the combination with two corresponding standards having each two leg-pieces positively attached to gether in fixed relation to each other, of a two-piece spreader connected to each standard by a hinge at a fixed point on the standard and having a central hinge-joint, and of detachable braces to connect the spreader to the respective standards and temporarily maintain the parts in operative position.
