GQMBBNED FOOT-REST AND TQWEL RACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 22, 190-7.
Application filed August 2,1966. Serial No. 272,320.
T 0 all whmn, it may concern:
Be it known that l, FRANK H. PATRICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norwich, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Foot-Rest and Towel-Rack, of which the following is a specification.
The chief object of this invention is to provide a convenient and cheap attachment for radiators that may serve the double purpose of foot-rest and towel-rack, said device being so secured to the radiator that it may be readily adjustable thereon.
My'invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a front side elevation of a steam-radiator having attached thereto a foot-rest of my newly-improved form. Fig. 2 is an end view of a similar radiator having two of my said devices mounted thereon, the upper one being shown in dotted lines and arranged to serve as a towel-rack, and the lower one to serve as a foot-rest. Fig. 3 is a relatively enlarged plan view of the foot-rest and of the bolts by means of which said footrest is clamped to the radiator-pipes. Fig. 4 is a front side elevation of said foot-rest. Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view of the same, taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings, the letter a indicates a radiator of the vertical-pi e type, and 1) indicates my newly-invented oot-rest and towel-rack as a whole.
' The ioot-rest section is formed, preferably, as a cast-metal shell Zr, whose exposed face I), as here shown, is curved outwardly to provide a substantial and convenient support for ones feet, and the back side or inner face of said foot-rest is formed with inwardlyprojecting slotted plates 6 My described device is secured to the radiator by means of bolts 0, which are provided with T-shaped heads 0 of proper size to hook behind the pipes of the radiator, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3. The threaded end of bolt 0 extends outward through the slotted plates b in order that a nut (1 may be screwed thereupon. (See Figs. 3, 4, and 5.)
After having adjusted the foot-rest to the desired height it may be securely clamped to the radiator by screwing the nuts (1 home, as will be understood by reference to the drawings.
The .shell of the foot-rest section is provided with a plurality of vertical slots 5 in which are loosely mounted bars e, of wood or the like cheap and light material, that may serve as clothes-supporting bars or racks. (See Figs. 2 and 5.) The said bars are not secured within the shell of the foot-rest, but are held therein by contact with the lower and upper end walls of the slots b said end walls being arranged in different vertical planes, or, in other words, they are offset from each other, so that the bars 6 are held, ordinarily, in a horizontal position, but may be readily removed from the slotted shell by slightly raising the outer end of each bar and then drawing the bar out of its slot.
When it is desired to utilize my described device as a foot-rest, it is clam ed to the radiator near the bottom of the latter, as seen in Fig. 1 and also at the bottom of Fig. 2, the bars 6 being then removed. When it is desired to utilize said device as a towel-rack,
the shell is raised and clamped to the radiator near the top of the latter, as indicated by dotted lines in said Fig. 2, and the bars e are placed in the slots 5 It will thus be seen. that I provide in a single, simple, and inexpensive structure both a convenient form of foot-rest and a useful form of towel-rack.
Having thus described my invention, I claim-- 1. A combined foot-rest and towel-rack comprising a metallic shell having verticallydisposed slots and formed upon its inner face with. integral slotted plates projecting toward each other, detachable towel-supportmg means cooperating with said vei tic-allydisposed slot and means passed through the slots of said plates and adjustable therein and having heads to engage behind the pipes of a radiator.
2. A combined foot-rest and towel-rack comprising a shell having vertically-disposed slots and inwardly-projecting slotted end plates, means adjustably engaged in the slots of said end plates to engage the pipes of a radiator and bars detachably engaged in the slots of the shell.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK H. PATRICK.
