Description

PATENTED JAN. 15,1907." G. TUGK.
COMBINED PAINTING BOOK A ND COLOR BOX.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 10. 1906.
UNITED STATES rarnn'r orrron GUSTAVE TUCK, OF LONDON, ENGLAND, ASSIGNOR TO RAPHAEL TUOK & SONS (10., LTD., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 15, 1907.
Application filed November 10, 1906. Serial No. 342,908.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GUsTAvE Took, a sub ject of the King of Great Britain, residing in London, England, in the Kingdom of Great Britain, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Painting- Book and Color-Box, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined painting-book and color-box which is provided with illustrations designed to be colored and in which the colors for use in coloring the illustrations are combined with the book for the convenient use of children in coloring the illustrations and for this purpose the invention consists of a combined painting-book and color-box which comprises a number of superposed illustrated leaves which are pro vided at one or more edges with recesses and flat color-cakes which are attached to the rear part or back of the cover or other leaf coincident with the recesses in the superposed illustrated leaves, as will be fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front view of my improved painting-book and color-box combined. Fig. 2 is a front view showing the same in open position; and Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section on line 3 3, Fig. 1, drawn on a larger scale.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, a represents a number of superposed illustrated leaves of my improved painting-book. These leaves are provided at one or more edges with recesses 1", preferably of circular shape, which are made coincident with each other. On the rear leaf or cover a at the back are arranged in line with the recesses in the leaves a a corresponding number of flat color-cakes c,which also correspond in shape to the shape of the recesses, but are made somewhat smaller in diameter. The rear leaf or cover 0, forms the bottom for the color-cakes and the recesses r. By forming recesses for the reception of the colors, as described, it will be seen that while the colors are always accessible for use when coloring, yet they are in such a position as to be incapable of coming into contact with the leaves or with any object placed over the recesses.
The front cover of the book may be arranged Without recesses so as to close over the color-cakes, and thus protect them from dust when the book is not in use, or it may be cut through and provided with recesses coinciding with the recesses of the intermediate leaves, so as to leave the colors in view when the front cover is closed.
In practice each leaf is perforated, so that when colored it may be easily torn out of the book, and the perforations may be so placed that the leaf so removed may include the recessed or cut-through portions thereof or may be independent thereof. The invention can also be used with a book of post-cards that are designed to be colored and then sent off by the children using the same.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A combined painting-book and colorboX, consisting of a plurality of leaves provided with recesses at one or more edges, and a corresponding number of color-cakes applied to the non-recessed leaf or cover and arranged coincident with the recesses of the superposed leaves.
2. A combined painting-book and colorboX, consisting of a plurality of leaves provided with illustrations and with recesses at one or more edges, and a non-recessed rear leaf or cover provided with flat color-cakes located coincident with the recesses in the superposed leaves and being of somewhat less diameter than the same.
8. A combined painting-book and colorbox, consisting of a plurality of illustrated leaves provided with recesses at one or more edges, color-cakes located on the non-recessed back sheet or cover, said cakes being coincident with the recesses in the super.- posed leaves, and perforations extending along the back edge and below the color-box and alongside of the color-cakes so that the colored illustrations may be removed from the painting-book.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GUSTAVE TUCK.
