To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GUsTAvn TUCK, of the firm of Raphael Tuck and Sons Limited, a subject of the King of Great Britain, re-

siding at Raphael House, Moorfields, in the city of London, England, and Kingdom of Great Britain, have invented new and useful Improvements in Painting-Books, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has relation to what are known as painting books for children, such books being provided with illustrations in outline designed to be paintedor filled in with difierent colors.

The invention further has relation, and in particular, to painting books of the kind in which the several colors required to fill in or paint the outline illustrations are attached to the inside of one of the covers of the book' in such a way that the book will always lie fiat and the colors will always be accessible.

The present invention has primarily for object and effect to provide improvements hereinafter described in connection with books of the kind mentioned, by which they,

are rendered more convenient and self contained.

In order that the invention may be clearly and readily understood, reference will now be made to'the accompanying sheet of drawings, on which Figure 1 is a plan view showing a painting book in accordance with this invention, closed. Fig. 2 is a similar view, but'showing the book open, and Fig. 3 is a section on the line m of Fig. 2.

The leaves 0 of the book a are provided with holes 6 which expose the'colors d attached to the inside of the back cover f of the book. When the book is closed, the holes 6, b, in the leaves constitute with the covers of the book, pockets which protect the colors, and prevent dust collecting thereon.

In order to make the painting book complete in itself and generally more convenlent, a palnt brush e, or brushes, is or are secured to the inside of the back cover f of the book by means of a holder or pocket 9 made of paper'or other suitable material. brush 6 may be easily and quickly withdrawn. 1

In order that the brush 6 shall be easily accessible at any time, and so that the leaves 0 shall always remain fiat, the leaves 0 are cut away, as at h. This permits the brush to be removedeven when the book is closed and when open, the brush can be got'without turning anyof the leaves. v, i V

Bythis invention, a painting book can be sent out flat and with a brush or brushes secured therein firmly and yet easily accessible and removable. The book being pro vided with colors and brush provides all that is necessary in order to enable coloring to be done.

I claim p A book of the type referred to having, in combination, covers, the leaves to be colored, the colors fastened on the inside of one of the covers, holes through the leaves registering with one another to permit ready access to said colors, and suitable means for holding a brush on the inside of the book, the leaves being cut away so as to form a pocket for said brush which will allow direct 1 access to the brush whether the book is open or closed and also'permit the leaves to remain flat at all times. I
