Be it known that I, LENA STEINTI-IAL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Childs Cap, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The purpose of the invention is to provide a very simple and economic construction of childs cap and one wherein the parts of the cap are permanently connected and are capable of being laid flat for purposes of washing, starching, and ironing and wherein, further, the parts may be quickly and conveniently drawn together and secured to form the front and back sections of a childs cap, said two sections only being needed for the forma* tion of said cap.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specifica tion, in which similar characters of reference indicate correspondingparts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved cap, 7 the parts being connected for use. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section through the cap, and Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the cap folded out flat.

The cap consists of two sectionsnamely, a front section and a back or flap section B. The sections may be constructed of any approved material. In the preferred construction, however, the two sections are rectangular, and the front section A is much longer than the rear section or flap B and consists of a central body member 10 and a marginal member 11. The rear section or flap B also preferably consists of a central body member 12 and a marginal member 13 but the marginal member 13 of the back or flap section B does not extend around the top edge of said section, which edge is straight, and said back or flap section B is secured to the under face of the front section at its center, said attachment being made between the center of said front section and its rear edge, as is- The marginal memclearly shown in Fig. 3. ber 11 of the front section A, however, extends entirely around the body member 10.

A ribbon or tape 14 or its equivalent is secured to the under face of the body-section A at the rear edge of its body member 10 a suitable distance from the corresponding outer edge of the back or flap section B, and a second ribbon or tape 15, adapted for engagement with the ribbon or tape 14, is secured to the under or inner face of the back or flap section B at one longitudinal edge of the body member 12, said ribbon or tape 15 being preferably a corresponding distance from the rear longitudinal edge of the body member 10 of the front section A as is the ribbon or tape 14 from the longitudinal edge of the back or flap section B at which the ribbon 14 is secured. A ribbon or tape 16, corresponding to the ribbon or tape 15, is secured also to the under face of the back or flap section B at the opposite side of its body member 12 and opposite the ribbon or tape 15, while a fourth ribbon or tape 17 is secured to the under face of the front section. A at the rear longitudinal edge of its body member 10, occupying a corresponding position to the position of the first-named tape or ribbon 14, as is also clearly shown in Fig. 3.

In addition to the aforesaid ribbons or tapes 14, 15, 16, and 17 tie-strings 18 are employed, and said tie-strings are secured to the under face of the front or main section A of the cap at the front longitudinal edge of its body member 10 and adjacent to the ends of said member.

In operation when the cap is to be laundered it is laid flat, as is shown in Fig. 3, and may be treated in the same manner as any other flat piece of material. When the cap is to be made up, the back or flap section is permitted to drop perpendicularly downward, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and then the ribbons or tapes 14 and 15 are tied together and also the ribbons or tapes 16 and 17,which operation will cause the rear portion of the marginal member 11 of the main front section to extend beyond and in a measure overlap the side portions of the marginal member 13 of the back or flap section B. When the cap is worn, the strings 18 are tied under the chin in the conventional manner.

It will be observed that the construction described provides for a complete cap and that it is exceedingly simple, embodying but two sections and simple fastening means, and that the cap can be quickly and conveniently shaped for use or placed in condition for laundry purposes.

I desire it to be understood that each section A and B may be made of one piece of material or of a number of pieces of material without departing from the spirit ofthe invention, and the fastening means namely, the ribbons 14, 15, 16, and 17-are always at tached to the sections at a point between their outer edges and their centers.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A childs cap consisting of a front section and a rear or flap section, the sections being at right angles to each other, each section consisting of a longitudinal body member and a marginal member, the marginal member extending on all sides of the front section and extending at the sides and rear end of the rear or flap section, the forward end of the rear or flap section being permanently secured to the rear edge of the body member of the front section with the marginal member thereof extending over the rear or flap section, and tapes secured to the rear edges of the body member of the front section and the side edges of the body member of the rear or flap section for detachably and adjustably' LENA STEINTHAL.
