Description

PATENTED JAN. 8, 1907.
1?. H. ARNOLD. SA'PETY RAZOR. APPLIOATION PILED SEPT. 16, 1906.
UNITED 'sTAq s PATENT OFFICE.
SAFETY-RAZOR- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 8,1907.
i I Application filed September 15, 1906. Serial No. 334,785.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDEEIOKH. ARNOLD. a citizen of the United States, residing at Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, 'have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors, of which the following is a specification." This invention relates to nnprovements in safety-razors of the class in which the blade is arranged to lie on the same plane and in line with the handle.
The object of the present invention is to provide a razor. of simple and cheap construction, having but few parts, and capable of being used with either hand, provision being made for cutting from both sides of the guard-plate.
. view, of my razor.
The invention consists of a single-piece holder com rising a handle and guard and a slotted 'doiil) osition.
The invention is more fully escribed in the following specification and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which' Figure 1 is a plan view, and Fig. 2 a side Fig.3 is a detail view of the blade, and Fig.4 is a detail in section of the clamping device.
The entire holder comprises a handle 1 and a guard 2, formed integral therewith and having the usual teeth 3. The guard is formed with the usual positionin -pins 3, one near either end, and it has loose y mounted in its center a pin 4, which passes through the plate. This -pin rojects upper face of the guar and carries a curved sprm 5and a thumb-piece 6 atits top. The ends of the sprin bear upon the upper face of the guard, andio'th the spring and thumb piece are of'the same width.
I with it the spring 5, which rides up le-edge blade capable of being i quickly and accurately placed in piece secured to the u per beyond the is of thin metal and formed with a central elongated slot 8 and a small perforation near either end. The slot 8 is slightly greater in width and length than the thumb-piece and spring. The blade is placed in position on the guard, the thumb-piece and spring passing easily through the slot 8. The pins 3 will engage the perforations in the blade, thus insuring its being properly placed, and the thumb-piece 6 is turned slight carrying onto the upper face of the blade and secure y holds it against the face of the guard. To insure its easy engagement, the inner wall of the slot 8 is ta ered, as shown at 8, to permit the ends of the spring to ride up onto the surface more easily. It is evident thatv the blade may be reversed on the guard, if' desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is y In a.safety-razor a holder having a guard formed with ositioning-pins, a pin loosely mounted in tile center thereof, a spring secured to and moving with said pin, a thumb- I end of said in in combination with a b ade of thin meta having two cutting edges and a central elongated slot ada ted to engage said s ring and erforations a apted to engage sai positioning-pins.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' I FREDERICK H. ARNOLD.
