SAFETY RAZOR.

UNITED STATE s PATENT oFFion. FREDERICK H. ARNOLD, oF READlNG, PENNSYLVANIA. $AFETY-RIAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
i Application filed September 15,1906. Serial No. 334.786.
To 0. whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK H. An- Now, a citizen of the United States, residmg at Reading, in the county of Berks and State ofPenns lvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors, of;which the following is a specification This invention relates to 1m rovements in safety-razors of theclass in w ich the blade is arranged to lieon the's'ame plane and in line with the handle.-
The object of the invention is to provide a razor of simple and cheap construction having but few arts and'capableof'bein'guse with either and, provislon being made for cutting from both sides of the guardlate.
The invention consists of a sing e-piece' holder comprising a handle and guard and a slotted double-edge blade capable of being quickly and accurately placed in position thereon. v
The invention is more fully described the following specification and clearlyillustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view; Fig. 2 a longitudi-' nal sectional view, and Fig. 3 a .plan: view of the under side of my razor. Fig. 4 shows a modified form of blade.
The entire-holder comprises a handle 1- and a guard 2 formed integral therewith and having the usual teeth 3. v
The guard is formed with a stationary leg 4 near its inner end, which leg projects beyond both the upper and lower faces of the guard. The lower. endof said leg is formed with a foot 5, extending toward the handle, and the upper end of the leg is perforated to receive the end of a sliding rod 6, which rod passes loosely through said perforation.
The outer end of the guard is formed with a slot 7, and a leg 8-is located therein, capable of longitudinal movement. This leg is also formed with a foot 5 on its lower end, extending in the opposite direction from the foot 5. The upper-end of this leg is secured to the rod 6. About midway of the rod 6 I form a collar 9, and between this-collar and the leg 4is interposed a-coiled spring 10.
The numeral ,11 indicates the blade, which is made of sheet metal, has two cutting edges, and is formed with two rectangular perforations 12, adapted to register with the feet 5 and 5 on the ends of the legs 4 and 81 Patented Jan. 15, 1907.
When it is desired to lace the blade in p0- sition, the legs are close by pressing the movable leg 8 toward the leg 4, compressing the spring 10. The blade is thenlaid against the guard, and the feet 5 and 5 enter the slots 12. When the leg 8 is released, the feet will spread apart and engage the blade and hold it in position. v
' In Fig. 4. I have shown a bladetwith a single elongated slot, which may obviously be used instead of one with two slots.
"The blade may be reversed, if desired, as the legs and slots are centrally disposed.
Having thus fully described my invention,
1 what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, i s
In a safety-razor a holder having a guard formed integral therewith, a stationary leg on said guard projecting from both faces thereof, a foot formed on the lower end'of said leg, a movable leg' in the opposite end of j said guard a foot on the lower end of said leg,
a rod formed integral withsaid movable leg and a coiled spring located on said rod between said legs in combination with a blade of thin metal having two cutting edges and elongated slots adapted to engage said feet.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of I two subscribing witnesses.
FREDERICK H. ARNOLD.
